3 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Really nice board quality and surprisingly good support from Gigabyte.

Cons: No post issue was resolved with moving memory to different slots. Bios would not take keyboard input so Gigabyte thought it was because of AMD Phenom 9850 not being fully supported by F3 bios. Bought a $28 AM2 AMD Sempron which changed nothing. Gigabyte suggested trying a PS2 keyboard. The board finally took input and hitting DEL "prepare to enter setup" and just sits there... Gigabyte recommended RMA, it is on it's way back to Newegg now. Will update everyone once we try again.

Other Thoughts: Really at current technology Bios function should be able to utilize a network connection and upgrade bios immediately before even using it and no floppy disks or downloading manually needed.

4 out of 5 eggsNot a bad mobo

Pros: Fast.

Cons: If you are having trouble posting with your new phenom cpu it's because the mobo doesn't recognize it. You need to either update the BIOS to the most recent version or use another cpu, like an athlon, to post load your OS, then use the software to update the BIOS through your OS.

Other Thoughts: I think I fried this mobo when trying to install crossfire. Not sure what happened, but I the IRQ list halts at the ACPI controller. It's likely my fault so I dont' blame gigabyte.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board, No real problems

Pros: Pretty Looking. Hahaha. Dropped it in, posts, and works great with no problems. Dual PCI-E 2.0 x16 support. Lots of SATA and USB. Very easy online BIOS update.

Cons: PCI-E power connector mounted to far away for the Sapphire Raedon 4850 Video Card. Will not recognize DDR2-1066. Had to manually set it in CMOS.

Other Thoughts: Bios loaded was F3 --> F6 is the latest. Works great with AMD Phenom Black 9600 Agenda. Using
Kingston HyperX 4x1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066, Sapphire 4850 Crossfire, Raidmax 700W PSU

3 out of 5 eggsgood - but with limitations

Pros: Very Nice motherboard with lots of options. good components used. I like the *idea* of the silent pipe cooling.

Cons: I am not completely sure that this board is the best solution for a gaming rig. I have a case with an upside down board configuration and have it rigged so the cpu fan is directed out towards one of the exhaust fans out the back (the airflow is a little high to hit directly on the vrm heatsink which is connected by 2 heatpipes to the northbridge that I thought would help a little). Anyway, after a bit of stressing the machine the northbridge temp gets too hot and starts slowing down the computer. I had to jury rig a small fan above the northbridge heatsink to alleviate the problem (it would have been nice if they at least provided a space to mount one. If you are using this board for htpc or other silent application, it fits the bill, but for a high stress usage machine, I would suggest something else.

3 out of 5 eggsLotsa doodads and gizmo's

Pros: The AM2 socket lends itself to the high end of the PC food chain. All of the hardware connections, headers, and such work fine. Nice layout

Cons: Do NOT for any reason use the "Easy5" software that comes with it....unless you LIKE the blue screen of death. One must assume that IF you're quick enough to build your own high end platform, then you know how to go into the bios and tweak your tunes. The Easy5 software is unstable on this motherboard. I've used it on earlier units, without incident. This could be due in part to the fact that I"m using Win XP 64 bit. Hmmm maybe.

Other Thoughts: If it IS because of the 64 bit OP sys, I'd have to say I don't have any trouble out of the ASUS monitoring/OC'ing software on the ASus board??? How's that? Oh yeah, A-S-U-S.....hmmm

5 out of 5 eggsRetraction on previous review

Pros: Nice layout, powerful chips, lots of goodies

Cons: None, so far. See other thoughts

Other Thoughts: I originally rated this as trash because it wouldn't post. Well.....operator/assembler mistake. Did what I was supposed to do and posted right up. Had left off power connector. Soooo embarrased. 9850 phenom, 2 x 2gb corsair xms, Palit 8800 GT 1gb, wd150 Raptor, etc. No problems whatsoever now....Time will tell...

2 out of 5 eggsNO POST

Pros: Sounds great in theory but should not sell this board with AMD Phenom 9850 if it does not work on it except with F6 which does not appear to be the case

Cons: No Post cannot even flash Bios completely unacceptable

4 out of 5 eggsGood MB

Pros: Fast, so far reliable (after F6 bios update), easy to install, everything on MB is placed well.

Cons: Came with with F5 version of BIOS, with Phenom 9850 it would work out of the box for about 15 minutes and then restart for no reason, occasionally blue screen. Upgraded BIOS to F6, works like a charm now. Couldn't upgrade to F6 from windows using Gigabytes flash executable, had to copy *.F6 file to flash drive and use QFLASH at boot, upgraded that way from first try. Don't even go the floppy drive way, flash drive works flawelessly. I'm a little worried about memory being so close to CPU heatsink, tried to put 2X2gig sticks of memory into 2 farther from CPU slots, it wouldn't work even though it should. Manual says it recommends the 2 closer ones, I did that and it's fine now.

Other Thoughts: Overall a decent motherboard. My system specs - MA790FX-DS5 MB, Phenom 9850 CPU, 2X2Gig Patriot PC2-8500 1066Mhz memory, GeForce 8800 GT 512mb from EVGA PCI-E, plus some random WD hard drive and DVD-R drive.

4 out of 5 eggsLuck of the Draw

Pros: Had everything I was looking for. Looked very promising.....

Cons: 1st board DOA, kept getting video card error beeps on bios contacted Gigabyte they said bad board. so I RMA'd it got the replacement would not boot, post, no beep codes nothing. Contacted Gigabyte again they said needed to update bios to at least F4 to run any of the Phenom's so i got a AM2 to do so plugged it in and you know the rest

Other Thoughts: Had to get a refund 2 bad boards back to back seems like a bad sign in my opinion. Just really wish I could have gotten it working looked very promising

:(
