4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Well, it's a very good AGP mobo and you can adjust the timings and there's good on-board sound.

Cons: Well, it ain't PCI-E. This is my second GA-K8NS because my first one blew in 2 years.

Other Thoughts: Running an AMD 3200+, 2GB Corsair XMS Dual Channel RAM, ATI X1600Pro.

4 out of 5 eggsPerforms well, has a few flaws

Pros: Booted right up with my AMD 64 3400+ processor. Install wasn't too difficult and the BIOS menu is nice. The software CD that came with it had more stuff on it than I anticipated. It definitely improved my CPU's performance vs. my old Chaintech board!

Cons: The IDE slots along with the memory and floppy slot are kinda crammed to one side of the board. Also the heatsink for the chipset is extremely close to my vid card. It does tend to run a bit warm ( Around 45C average )in my setup. CMOS reset jumper pins did not have a cap provided - used one from a spare HDD to reset the CMOS.

Other Thoughts: Upgrade the BIOS after you get it setup and make sure your PC's cooling is adequate. Overall it performs well, but the board's layout could have been better.

3 out of 5 eggsBuilt-in ethernet finds an early grave

Pros: Good basic board for everyday use, such as internet and office apps. Nice upgrade if you have an older Socket A setup and don't want to buy a new video card and memory. Plenty of PCI slots.

Cons: The built-in ethernet adapter has died already. If not for that I would have given it 4 or 5 stars. Bought the motherboard in August and the controller died in mid-October. Also, the location of the SATA connections is not the greatest. I'm not going to claim the socket 754 as a con because I knew that it was outdated when I purchased this board.

Other Thoughts: The system was not stable with the nVidia IDE drivers. I'm using the Microsoft default drivers and it works much better. Also, be sure you have XP with SP2 built in before trying to install to a SATA drive or a large hard drive. Had some problems initially with a 400GB Seagate drive but once I slipstreamed SP2 into XP and used that to do a fresh install everything worked fine. Other than the built-in ethernet dying I'm happy with the board. Newgg offered to replace it but I don't want to screw around with it and pay the shipping. It's just easier to slap in an old 3Com card into one of the many PCI slots. In retrospect I should have gone with a Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939 board.

4 out of 5 eggsdecent

Pros: WAY better than my msi mobo.
like the colors.
CPU heatsink sat on without a problem.
The bios on this board rocks.
IDE slots were posotioned perfectly for my case.
I like the AGP card lock. that was a good idea.

Cons: defaulting to 333mhz if you have more than double sided ram chip.
uh, other than that i havent had any others.

Other Thoughts: i bought this with an athalon 64 as an upgrade from my athalon 2100. Totally amazed at how good this setup is, even though its being phased out.

if you are looking for something cheap and want to stay with 754 this board would be one to do it with.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Deal

Pros: I like how you can adjust ram timmings, I got mine pretty tight with a 1gb stick of generic ram. I've had everything overclocked for about 6 months now. Everything is running smooth.

Cons: I went from a 512mb stick of ram to a 1gb stick and it wouldn't boot. I took it out, put the 512mb stick back in and still it wouldn't work. after 3 or 4 times of taking the 1gb stick in and out it fired right up. That was a few months back and all has been good since. Just thought it was a little wierd.

Other Thoughts: I think I'm gunna pick up another for a spare.
