4 out of 5 eggsGood mobo for the price

Pros: Fit perfectly in my Antec Sonata III case. Graphics from the built in video card are great (once drivers are installed). All the needed connections and lots of room to work.

Cons: The Driver and Utilities CD WOULD NOT LOAD. Made it very hard to connect to the internet and get updates. Eventually copied the whole CD onto my USB drive and then loaded the drivers from there (thank goodness that worked).

Other Thoughts: Great mobo for my first ever system build, and priced nicely.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate....

Pros: SATA 2, Firewire, DDR 2. Nice basic mobo. If you want support, you really should check out the MSI user forums. Lots of moderators on hand.
Very helpful.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Don't use the upgraded driver from the ATI site for the onboard video. I was getting freezes with it. Changed to the drivers off the included CD, now everything is good...

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap, comes with vga onboard.

Cons: the sata controller isn't that easy to work with linux. also the ethernet is complicated. Needed kernel > 2.6.20 to make it work right. Also memory DDR800 got recognised as DDR667 and no bios update yet. Cpu AMD 6000 recognises as Unknown CPU.

Other Thoughts: They should make available a Bios Update to fix the memory issue. that's really necessary.

4 out of 5 eggsupdate on 4Gb memory issues

Pros: Still a nice and affordable board.

Cons: Still has memory problems.

Other Thoughts: AMD brisbane x2 3600+. Tried a 4x1Gb (2 x wintec 3AXT6400SE5)config. Needed BIOS v3.45beta to get Vista x64 and Fedora core x64 live to work. Problem now is that the BIOS only reports 3.2Gb of memory. With 3 x 1GB sticks it reports 2.96Gb memory. MSI is working on it. Has anybody tried a 4Gb setup?

5 out of 5 eggsAn update...

Pros: Well I had to flash to BIOS 3.3 to get the mobo to see my Brisbane core cpu. This bios revision kills the onboard firewire. I went to the MSI user forums and was able to get MSI to send me a new BIOS in about 20 minutes. Now the onboard firewire is working...

Cons: None, now that my firewire is functional...

Other Thoughts: Anybody complaining about MSI support should go to the MSI user forums, very prompt assistance.
The BIOS version I flashed to was
3.43

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Specifications looked great... lots of options etc.

Cons: Warning: SATA RAID drivers for Server 2003 do not exist from MSI. MSI support staff referred me to ATI web site with NO indication (even though I asked) of which chipset I need to locate for the appropriate drivers. ATI (bought by AMD) has no information on the RAID drivers for this motherboard.

Other Thoughts: Had system restart due to SATA controller failure... switched system drive from WDC to Seagate... still same problem... Still looking for BIOS upgrade that may help solve these problems!

5 out of 5 eggsGood AMD chipset board

Pros: This is an excellent entry level board especially for those looking to save a few bucks. I love the Gigabit LAN, the 7.1 audio is decent and the board works well with my 5200+. Would recommend this board to anyone say building their first machine because setup was a breeze.

Cons: 2 PCI slots only, if you need to add more like I did make sure to buy an add-on PCI controller card like the "PROMISE ULTRA133 TX2 PCI IDE 66M PCI Controller Card" and do not setup your main drives on this add-on card until after it is setup first.

Other Thoughts: I went bare bones with this system because I wanted to get on the AM2 platform. I bought 2Gig of G-Skill single channel because it was cheaper and no vid card because of onboard that I'm able to share 256MB from mainboard via BIOS.

4 out of 5 eggsMemory capacity issues

Pros: Affordable, good set of features.

Cons: MSI support is substandard. No tech support response via website, no answer via phone. BIOS issues, newest version pulled from website. Can't get a hold of anyone in MSI support to help.

Other Thoughts: This board has problems (BIOS v3.0) when populated with 4G of memory (4x1G). Using new Wintec PC800 1G sticks (6 to choose from), all sticks checked fine with Memtest. WinXP will eventually crash when using 4G of memory. Fedora core64 live won't even finish booting with this config. Board is happy with 3G (3x1G). Will test BIOS 3.3 and report back (no firewire with this one).MSI please provide a working BIOS!
