Solid Board
- Pros: Extremely Stable. Overclocks Very Well. Plenty of SATA & USB. HD Audio. PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet. Dual 16X PCI-E Crossfire. Lots of BIOS Options. Runs better than any nf3/nf4 or via motherboard i've had for the a64 yet. If you're running non-raid sata on the uli you don't need to press f6 during windows install. It runs it emulating PATA. Only drivers you need is audio, ethernet, & video. No huge chipset drivers, like via & nvidia
- Cons: The HD audio has some kind of buzz when I have my headset plugged into the back. In the front I believe the buzz is gone but for some reason I can't get my mic to work in the front port. The 2nd SATA controller only has 1 internal connection wish there was 2, but the 2nd one is on the I/O panel.
- Other Thoughts: If you order this the first thing you should do before it comes is download and burn the new 0311 bios to cd, when you first start it up press alt + f2 (on post) and it will load the ASUS EZ Flash. Put the cd in and it will do the rest. Config your bios, install windows, & you're ready to go. The 0311 fix's all issues that were reported with half-life2, battlefield2, & other games. I paid over 200+ when I ordered mine now the price is dropping seems like now is the time to get it.
Fast board!!
- Pros: Very fast.
Very stable. ULi chipset rather than the ATI Southbridge. Aesthetically pleasing
- Cons: Early BIOS problems
- Other Thoughts: I am not having any of the gaming problems mentioned by some of the other reviewers. However, I don't doubt that there are timing issues as FRAPS displays horribly erroneous framerates (in the 800-999 range)in games. That does not occur on the A8R-MVP. My experience has been extremely positive thus far although I have not had the time yet to overclock/optimize BIOS settings.
Make sure you have a powerful PS if you are running crossfire and 4 HD's in RAID. I have had instantaneous power downs with intense activity.

This Board Has Bugs
- Pros: This board has many options to overclocking, quiet board operation to crossfire capabilities and on board Sata features with RAID
- Cons: Faulty BIOS, I had this mobo for over a year and I get constant issues with overclocking. During POST it freezes and never gets to the desktop. Its been more recent lately. There is got to be a more updated bios feature to fix this problem.
- Other Thoughts: I'm running a AMD Athlon X2 4800+ with 4GB DDR 184 Pin memory. There were tests done with this cpu and motherboard that overclocking went as far as 3.14 GB stable but that was not the case for me I got as far as 2.82 and then I was getting random shutdowns and freezing at the POST screen.
Lots of options, solid board
- Pros: Excellent options for overclocking and nice board features.
Running this with a Socket 939 Athlon 64 New Orleans 3700+, 4 - 512 MB PC3200 Corsair XMS RAM, Antec 650 Trio PS, stock air cooling and have it OCd to 2.6 GHz running at less than 40 degrees C. Could probably get it up to 2.9 GHz. Runs fast, stable, and cool.
- Cons: The crash free bios isn't so crash free. While trying to get memory settings correct on overclocking, I had to remove the battery and clear the CMOS multiple times. The built in AI OC and OC profiles are worthless. If you plan on OCing this, plan on doing it manually. These are annoying things, but once you get this board up and cooking, you'll forget about them. Make sure to update the BIOS. I'm at version 0602.
- Other Thoughts: It took me a 8-12 hours of playing around to get the overclocking settings right. Once I got them, this thing screams and is very stable, but it was a painful process. I wouldn't recommend this board to the new to overclocking.
- Pros: Good board layout. Lots of slots for everything.
- Cons: SATA controller on the board is terrible. This might be Asus just using a cheap controller but either way I get crashes almost every day in addition to random freezes.
- Other Thoughts: If you're going to get this board I would advise buying another SATA controller and not using the one on the board.
