3 out of 5 eggsLook Elsewhere

Pros: Lots of features, SLI. Looks great on paper.

Cons: Flaky memory support, bios issues. The quality of this board is not in line with its cost.

Other Thoughts: After using this board for a year, I find I really can't recommend it. Bottom line: you can find a better board, even one with SLI, for a LOT less money.

1 out of 5 eggsdied after 11 months

Pros: The overclocking with the E6700 was decent and the motherboard was compatable with the xms2 ram. We used it as a DAW for 11 months with ecouraging results.

Cons: It died. No POST, or beeps, and this item (as of 10/5/07) is only returnable for 30 days. i expected more for something that costs this price from asus...

Other Thoughts: everyone should care abour return policies...

4 out of 5 eggsSATA Optical Drive Question

Pros: Does this MB support a SATA DVD drive? I thought all SATA was the same from what I can tell it has to be a HDD. Is that correct?

Cons: questions

3 out of 5 eggsNot bad, stay away from 4+ GB though

Pros: It works. Overclocks from 2.4ghz to 2.7ghz without any problems.

Cons: I got 2x 1024 corsair 800's (4-4-4) and decided to go to 4GB... would not detect the full 4GB (in 32-bit XP), and when I did a fresh install of XP 64-bit it was not stable at all. Ran latest BIOS, latest drivers, etc. Others have this problem, check the forums.....

2 out of 5 eggsNot a year and it's dead

Pros: Worked great for 11 months, never needed to tweak BIOS or compatibility settings.

Cons: After 11 months, it stopped working, no POST, no beeps, nothing. Reading lots of similar reviews and having to RMA multiple times.

2 out of 5 eggsFried in a year!

Pros: The board was good while it lasted. Did everything that I wanted and that's all that matters.

Cons: It just fried out. No post beeps one day and it's not my PSU. Plus for the board specs, it is way to expensive.

Other Thoughts: I'm getting that gigabyte board with a 1333MHz FSB, Quad Core capabilites, and DDR3.

5 out of 5 eggs1 Year and board still performing perfect!

Pros: I have to agree with the previous reviewer. I bought this board in the early days after it's release 1 year ago. This board is great! After approx. 1 year I have had zero problems. This is the best board I have ever owned and I love it!

Cons: None, except as I noted on my original review approx. 1 year ago, with 2 Nvidia 7950GTX cards in SLI, 2 of the adjacent PCI slots were blocked. This is mainly dues to oversized card design, and a slight board reconfig could probably fix that. Small price to pay for the performance gain.

Other Thoughts: Running in NZXT zero full tower, 2 x 7950GTX in SLI, E6700 core 2 duo (The original version), 2GB Corsair PC6400 800ghz low latency ram, 2 x 320GB Seagate Barracuda drives. Working great for 1 year.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter ASUS MB are for Pro's

Pros: The last three reviews made me have to write this review; I don't normally take time to do this.
I am a Porfessional computer guy for 22 years.
These last 3 reviews are obviously coming from computer hacks who have a very low understanding of Finesse when dealing with mainboards. I have seen so many employees over these years that handle the parts like gorrillas. The coments these Blokes have made are absurd and any seasoned technician can see right through it.
ASUS boards are the best in the market; their engineering and quality control are unsurpassed.
This board ROCKS like the workhorse I expected it to be; I chose this board specifically to be a video and encoding Base with the E6600 core2. It carrys 4gig of Corsair XMS RAM with no problem even though XP pro 32bit and nvidia 7800 GTX give me just 3gig of RAM in Windows.
I am sure the inexperienced will not understand what I just said.

Cons: ASUS pro boards are for professionals. You must have a high mechanical ability with lots of finesse. If you don't have it, don't use the top boards.

Other Thoughts: The STRIKER mainboard has probably been the most challenging board I've used simply because of the wiring. The board has so much stuf, channelling the wiring so that it looks like a Voodoo job was a challenge. Out of context here but the placement of the SATA ports were a pain.

1 out of 5 eggsCrying for the summer with out a computer!

Pros: It is nice when it works, which was three months and two RMA's ago.

Cons: I have never had a MB die on me let alone two die in a sigle month. The first one I bought came with a bum bios chip. After spending two days on the phone with asus they sent me a new chip. That worked for around a year. Then it inexplicable stopped powering on I sent it back to Asus... Three weeks later I get a brand new MB which I installed. On the very first power on test (with nothing more than the MB pluged in and the CPU fan) the internal speaker cries like a banshy as smoke rolls out from around the CPU heatsink! As of this moment I am on hold with Asus to speak to them about exchaing for a diffrent model MB and replacing my burnt out CPU(yes there are actualy heat blisters on the under side of my CPU)!

Other Thoughts: Save yourself time grief and money and get another MB.

1 out of 5 eggsAWFUL

Pros: Asus pays for shipping the second time you send this piece of junk back.

Cons: I've had this mobo for just under a year now, and it's never worked properly. It won't run with all 4 memory slots full(tried two different brands). It has completely died on me twice. Once it dies it won't even post the bios. After the second time I RMA'd it, it works, but it can take 15+ seconds to post the bios after you turn it on(not exaggerating). Both times it died I had already installed the latest bios update.

Other Thoughts: This is the worst mobo I've ever owned. This will be my last Asus board.
