5 out of 5 eggsKiller Windows Home server board

Pros: Great WHS board! The standard Intel PATA connecter plus the 2 ITE PATA conectors let you connect 6 IDE HDD's and use up all those old IDE drives that you have sitting around. couple this withe a additional 4 SATA ports and you have a very storage-centric board. Turned all my old drived into a 1.9 terabyte arry. Included Windows Server 2003 drivers work well with WHS.

Cons: No RAID on the ITE PATA ports-No biggie for me though. Realtek sound chip

Other Thoughts: Turned a pile of old drives into a flexable server, I love this board.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine for me

Pros: Works with old and new equipment. I just did a clean install of XP/SP2 on the NEW WD6400AAKS. No problems what so ever. I'm using bios 1903 set to OC profile FSB1333/DDR2 834 to accommodate an E6850 with 2 sticks of Corsair CM2x1024-6400C5DHX

Cons: none. This board is very versatile. I guess I'll be using it for a very very long time... at least 4-5 years.

Other Thoughts: I had R1 (2005) of this board for a couple of years. when conroe came out I got R2. All I had to do was click on the activate windows button once and I was back up running. Installing the the E6850 and new memory only required a quick visit to the BIOS.

5 out of 5 eggsOPEN BOX 49 BUCKS FREE S & H

Pros: This is an outstanding mobo. I bought 1 retail box and liked it so much that I bought 2 more open box boards. They don't come with anything but the board itself so I got the I O Shields from Asus for 5 bucks ea. WORKS PERFECT WITH ALL LINUX DISTROS.

Cons: Wont cut my grass!

Other Thoughts: U BUY - U READ - U LIKE!!!

5 out of 5 eggsGood Linux Board

Pros: I love this board. Works perfect with all distros of Linux such as Slackware, Debian, BSD, etc. All drives are bootable. I don't see how anyone that can "read" would have trouble with this board.

Cons: n/a

Other Thoughts: I'll be buying more of these.

3 out of 5 eggsTrouble with XP

Pros: LOTS of features seems to be stable so far.

Cons: nightmare to get xp 32bit installed... since my laptop doesn't have a floppy drive to create the driver disks off of the mobo driver cd, i had to go to extreme measures to get the disks created.

Other Thoughts: If you are planning on loading xp 32bit, plan on making some raid driver disks from the mobo driver cd.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Basic Board

Pros: If you need a basic board, this one is a good choice. I wanted a board that had good flexibility for hardware - both SATA and IDE, a serial port an a parallel port. This had it, and for an excellent price.

Cons: As one poster noted, you have to be careful routing your power leads if you populate all four RAM modules. Wouldn't boot when I first tried, then I re-routed the power leads and all was fine. The only other issue I have with it is powering off. For some reason, when I power it back up, I get beep codes - and they indicate it can't find a graphic card (one long beep, followed by three short beeps). If I do a Ctrl+Alt+Del after the codes, it boots fine. And restarts - as opposed to shutting completely down - work fine. May be a setting in the BIOS for the Power options, but if so, I haven't found it yet.

Other Thoughts: Understand that this is a "basic" board - certainly not high-end. Revision 2 supports dual core procs natively, with no BIOS update. If that fits your needs, you can't beat the price and function.

4 out of 5 eggsGood MB

Pros: Nice BIOS, worked out of box, no driver issues, good user manual.

Cons: Allendale E4500 gave "Intel CPU uCode loading error", this dissapeared after BIOS flash to latest beta 1904.

Other Thoughts: I built this for a client - I do not overclock systems. The BIOS seemed to have many manual and automatic overclock options.

Ran with E4500 Allendale, BFG 8500GT, Corsair Valueselect 2x1GB. Recognized dual channel DDR2 667 right away.

1 out of 5 eggsDon NOT buy

Pros: None.

Cons: I bought this board for my 37th PC build. The amount of time and effort required to get it up and running with XP is simply not worth it. Asus generally makes great boards. This is not one of them.
