ICON Loading...

The ASUS P5B-E comes with a load of proprietary operating features, for extreme performance, minimum noise, and maximum energy saving. Based on the Intel P965 chipset, this motherboard is quad-core ready and supports all of Intel's Dual Core processors (Socket T). It features the AI NOS utility that automatically detects system loads and provides immediate system adjustments to boost performance. The Precision Tweaker gives you precise voltage control for the CPU (vCore) and memory (vDIMM), and the incorporated SFS (Stepless Frequency Selection) provides easy adjustments of the CPU FSB and memory clock speed.

In case the system hangs up due to overclocking failure, the ASUS C.P.R. overclocking protection tool allows amendment of system settings from the BIOS and eliminates the need for manual clearance of CMOS data. The ASUS Quiet Thermal Solution (AI Gear, AI Nap, and Q-Fan 2) improves performance across the system by providing a silent, cool environment.

With its 8 GB max capacity DDR2 800 dual channel memory system architecture, PCI-E X16 graphic card slot, six expansion slots (3 x PCI-E X1 + 3 x PCI), and nine ATA connectors (8 x SATA + 1 x PATA), it is an excellent option for a mid-range gaming platform, with extreme flexibility and room for a lot of power!

  • newegg Intel P965+ICH8R Chipset The Intel P965 Express Chipset incorporates Intel Fast Memory Access technology to significantly increase overall system performance by optimizing available bandwidth and reduction of memory access latency. Up to dual-channel DDR2 800 memory is supported by the P965 chipset to provide up to 12.8 GB/s peak memory bandwidth for greater platform performance and memory flexibility. The ICH8R also features SATA 3Gb/s with Intel Matrix Storage Technology support, High-Speed USB 2.0 and HD Audio support.
  • newegg Intel Core 2 Processor Support This motherboard supports the next-generation LGA 775 Intel Core 2 processors including the Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Extreme. With Intel's brand-new Core microarchitecture, the Intel Core 2 processors are considered as some of the most powerful and energy-efficient CPUs in the world.
  • newegg Precision Tweaker Designed for serious overclockers, Precision Tweaker offers a powerful arsenal of overclocking options to help you achieve maximum system performance!
  • newegg Q-Connector The ASUS Q-Connector allows single-step connection and disconnection of chassis front panel cables with one complete module. This unique adapter ensures quick and accurate connections without the trouble of plugging cables in separately.
  • newegg SATA on the Go The P5B-E supports next-generation Serial ATA (SATA) 3Gb/s-based hard drives. The external SATA port located on the back I/O panel provides easy setup and hot-plug functions so you can backup photos, videos and other multimedia content on external devices with ease.
  • newegg Noise Filter The Noise Filter feature eliminates repetitive and stationary noises caused by computer fans and air conditioners as well as other background noises for crystal-clear audio quality.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat MOBO!

Pros: Nice clean board.
Everything works with vista and Ubuntu Gutsy Gibon (7.10).
Loads of USB and SATA ports.
Easy setup.

Cons: Manual could be more clear in some areas... When inserting RAM, put your PAIRS of DIMMS in matching color slots (or so I read somewhere online... no clear in manual)

Other Thoughts: I have two of them (one with Core 2 Duo E4400 and one with E6600).
Works GREAT with CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) (frequently on sale at newegg).
Both have a samsung SATA DVD RW
Second board was a newegg openbox (warning: no I/O plate or any cable/manual/CD). I had: "intel CPU uCode loading error" when booting. I just downloaded the latest BIOS from asus.com and unzipped it on a usb thumb drive. Then I used Asus EZ Flash 2 (built in the bios) to backup my mobo's bios and burn the new one all in less than 5 minutes! BRAVO ASUS!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Best bang for the buck. I can plug in what I got now and lots of room to grow on.

Cons: Only down side of this board was the mount hole down on the power plug in for the case. When you push in your connectors the board bends. Also, the first board I got was defective at the same point. But suport from ASUS was great.

Other Thoughts: none

2 out of 5 eggsLasted 8 months, then ~poof~

Pros: (check other entries)

Cons: PC just froze and on reboot, no SATA recognized. Did the usual installs of drivers, "look for new hardware" in XP, updated BIOS... nuo joy.

Other Thoughts: Now I get to stick my SATAs in external enclosures at USB speeds, "hooray!" (Or RMA it for a replacement, but then I'm without a PC for a week? Pass.)

5 out of 5 eggsgreat board

Pros: I have 2 of these. both bought open-box for under $90 here on newegg. one runs a e6420 overclocked to 3.2, the other a quad core xeon x3220 at 3.4, i use 2gb of the Gskill ram in each at 400, and 425fsb speed on 2.0 volts ram rated at 5-5-5-15, i am running 4-4-4-12 no problems.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: this board is listed on asus site as supporting the new 45nm cpu's also.

3 out of 5 eggsGets the job done

Pros: Price is good, good bios set-up. simple install of hardware and software that it came with. Good for basic comp use and games. I'm happy overall.

Cons: DONT INSTALL 32-BIT OS IF HAVE A LOT OF RAM!! I'm running 4 gigs with Vista and 2 gigs in XP?!?! Xp runs very sluggish, thought the board was junk till i installed vista then it was a dream. Seems the board was made for 64-bit use. I trust ASUS, but this is my 2nd personal pc in 2 years for myself and i'm disappointed. Changing brands next time. Also, Takes a VERY long time to get to any windows setup install from a fresh wipe....sits at the blue screen for about

Other Thoughts: Heard the overclocking was good, not for me. will only overclock over 15% but simply wont load any OS just the setup. (Running the E6600)

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of Junk

Pros: NONE

Cons: I have had three of these boards all of which failed. Newegg did an excellent job replacing them on time. However, my last board which failed last week was over the amount of time that newegg. I called ASUS directly. Their customer service is horrible. I will never by another product from ASUS.

Other Thoughts: ASUS is a horrible company. Newegg has provided excellent service and this was out of their hands.

5 out of 5 eggsGood overall board

Pros: Not as potent as some of the higher end boards out there, but a lot of bang for the buck. Install was a breeze. The layout works pretty well for airflow within the case that I bought, and the temps are staying pretty low.

Cons: None!

3 out of 5 eggsGoing Down Hill

Pros: Average Mother Board

Cons: When I build a system for a user I want a good feeling as it will run with no problems and the ASUS P5B-E doesn’t give me that feeling. If the CPU frequency is adjusted for the best running it doesn’t display the right information in the Bios or any where. It has shutdown one time in the 1st month but doesn’t show any problems when tested. When the system is booting up or shutting down the fans will turn off and on with no rime or reason. Asus has something call Q-fan I have no idea what itis and it seems Asus has no idea either because it is not explained on there website or manual.

Other Thoughts: Asus is getting to big, after waiting for ½ hr. to talk to support and this is becoming the normal time not the exception. During this ½ hr I know more about there laptops than I want to. I have been trying other manufactures looking for one that will talk to me in less than 1/2 hr.

2 out of 5 eggsASUS QA is garbage

Pros: Worked great for 7 months.

I was able to get stable overclocks of up to 3.2 Ghz with my E6700 with air cooling. FSB was stable up to 350 (which is as far as I tested it).

Cons: Like several other have complained, the ASUS BIOS update utility bricked my board. They need to seriously step up their quality control. I updated the BIOS and rebooted only to have it no longer post. After a CMOS reset it posted but complained of a "CMOS Checksum Error". The board wouldn't even boot to a floppy to flash it with a good BIOS. It is now in the process of being RMA'd.

Other Thoughts: Be wary of the ASUS software utility's and use at your own risk.

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent board

Pros: Very good motherboard especially for overclocking. I purchased this motherboard back in November 06 and bought an E6400. Overclocked it to 3.0Ghz without any trouble at all. It has been running flawlessly ever since.

Cons: Can't think of any.

Other Thoughts: Definitely worth getting for a relatively lower cost motherboard with good overclocking features and support for quad core too!
