Decent board, bad documentation
- Pros: Lots of features. Big board. Easy to reach everything. Has been going good without a problem so far.
- Cons: Documentation on the wire placement is terrible and not accurate at all. BIOS chip was outdated so the the processors I originally bought did not work despite them stating that they would (you have to dig around on their site to know what they actually do and don't support because they don't actually support all that they say that they do).
- Other Thoughts: The board itself has been great but I almost returned it due to poor documentation and misleading me about what processors would work on this board. But ASUS overnighted me an up to date BIOS chip for 12 bucks and everything came up just fine.
Wonderful
- Pros: Fast, easy to reach all the spots you need to reach, ready for future components, supports all 2nd generation Opterons, and reliable. The BIOS has a lot of tweakable options.
- Cons: Update the BIOS as soon as you install. Only one PATA connector. On board 5.1 sound not for serious gamers. IMPORTANT: go to the ASUS site for memory compatibility.
- Other Thoughts: Dual core 2212 Opterons, SB X-Fi, Haupage HD card, XFX 8800 GT, 3 gig memory per processor, BlueRay, and 2 DVD burners, etc. Blows my gaming buddies away.
The third time is a charm
- Pros: Very fast
Getting this from Newegg
- Cons: came with 0104 bios after upgrade to 0303 some options are missing but no issues os far.
NEEDS an updated Manual
Hope they support quad core in future.
- Other Thoughts: 1st bought open box, arrived with everything missing.
2nd return and bought retail. Board couldn't get past post screen. Memtest86+ would crash, all kinds of memory problems. over 1 month now and i never got a response from Asus!!. Returned it to newegg for exchange.
3rd this time all is good. No issues with CentOS 5.1 and 8GB of Ram
