Get excellent power of performance with the Asus P5KPL-CM Motherboard. This micro-ATX motherboard is based around Intel's G31 and ICH7 chipsets. It can support 45nm technology Intel LGA 775 socket Core 2 Duo and Celeron D processors with a front side bus of 1333 Mhz with 1600 Mhz speeds achievable through overclocking. A pair of 240-pin sockets allows you to install up to 4GB of DDR2 1066 memory with dual channel support.
Video is handled by the onboard Intel GMA 3100 chipset, or you can install a PCI Express x16 graphics card to take on the load. Another PCI slot allows further expansion of your system and the VIA VT1708B audio chipset delivers 8 channels of sound for your enjoyment.
Four 3 GB/s SATA devices can be installed and eight USB 2.0 connectors allow you to attach peripherals at will without having to struggle to find an empty port while the Gigabit Ethernet LAN lets you connect to a home or business network.

Read This !
- Pros: This is a basic office/www MB. It is a recommendable MB being that it accepts all 775 cpus, has a 1600 FSB operating range, PCI X16 & can be OC’ed. It doesn’t require a VGA card, which translates into less money spent. Sound is beyond what’s needed. This is a very good ASUS bang for the buck MB. Insert a $70. Pentium E2160 Dual-Core processor, OCZ DDR2 PC8500 2GB Dual Channel Kit (OCZ2N1066SR2GK) @ about $60. and a reliably decent name power supply ><$100. U r ready to over-clock. U can easily achieve a stable CPU frequency at 325 MHz @ 9 multiplier. Set ur DRAM timings to specs & leave it on auto in the BIOS. This translates the E2160 @ 1.8GHz 800 FSB into E2160 @ 2.93GHz 1300 FSB. That’s a 60% over-clock! Core speed is about 2927.3 MHz (2.93GHz). Core VID is 1.3250, well within the E2160 specifications. The DRAM Frequency is 1084.2 (542.1 MHZ) (533 MHz for 1066 memory), slightly over but OCZ sticks over-clock well. Doing the above is like putting a blazing saddle on a striped ape.
- Cons: Still waiting to happen, maybe next year!
- Other Thoughts: The above mentioned system has been overclocked to 3.05GHz. Jeez this less than $300. system using extra spare parts; old case, dvd-rom, kb, mouse & lcd was put together to save electricity. Actually runs faster than the gaming rig it sits next to.
Update From 12/29/08 Review: OC
- Pros: An update regarding my review of 12/29/08:
The overclocking ability via BIOs is limited, as indicated by other reviewers. However, I did want to share some testing for this MB and a cheap CPU. The results indicate some basic OCing is well worth the few minutes required to adjust a few settings.
My best results: From BIOs/Advanced select 30% OC Profile with voltages on Auto. I tried adjusting manually CPU Bus Speeds and various voltages. Results are as follows:
Auto OC: Core 2.2 MHz, Bus 202 MHz, FSB 807 MHz 20% OC: Core 2.65 MHz, Bus 241 MHz, FSB 964 30% OC: Core 2.87 MHz, Bus 261 MHz, FSB 1043
Computer system performance index: No OC: 689 Auto OC: 698 20% OC: 801 30% OC: 837
All of this with a cheap Conroe E4500 CPU w/800 MHz FSB and 2 GB DDR 667 ram (Crucial), W-D 500GB SATA 3.0 in an old e-Machine case w/original power supply. The 30% OC is stable and the CPU runs no hotter than 54C (73C Tmax).
- Cons: The obvious statement, well said by other reviewers, is the OC ability of this board is limited. However, a 30% increase in CPU and FSB frequency is easily reached.
I did try tweeking the voltages as best the BIOS would allow, but I could not boot when voltages were above those in the OC profiles established by the BIOS. Still, just how much more OCing do you want to do with a board of this price?
- Other Thoughts: I am not a fan of buying the "newest generation" of CPU or MBs. I prefer to wait until the next great improvement comes along and buy the "outdated" gear at a 70-80% discount a year +/- later. This MB and E4500 are a good case in point.
This may be the best value for the few dollars spent on upgrading I've ever experienced. Enjoy!

Good but not great
- Pros: You can overclock on a budget.
- Cons: It can overclock, but doesn't allow you to adjust the vcore. BEWARE! Was only able to get a stable OC with stock cooling at 2.268 GHz for my C2D e6300 (1.86 GHz stock). Said processor has been repeatedly OCed with stable performance at 2.5+ GHz. I guess I really have no reason to complain for the price it's at...right?
Putting the computer to sleep makes my computer hang. i have to repress the sleep button to make it REALLY sleep. really weird and annoying.
- Pros: Well to get to the point i only bought this because it is one of the few micro atx i found with win 2003 server drivers so it works with whs like a charm basic asus layout, has two fan headers plus cpu so that is a plus, all in all a good basic motherboard.
- Cons: One con for the 1 egg off is the placement of 4 pin cpu power connector i put this a p180 mini and the nice 200mm fan on top makes getting it in a tad tricky but it will fit.
- Pros: The bois is nice for overclocking your cpu. It's a good budget board for a first time builder. Has a nice FSB speed.
- Cons: There's no way to turn on ECC for RAM. Customer support is mediocre.
