4 out of 5 eggsSolid board

Pros: Solid board. No problems running Core 2 Duo E8400 OC to 3.6 GHz. I like the OC profile portion of the BIOS. This allows you to save a couple of different OC profiles into the BIOS that you can recall if you make a mistake or if all the BIOS options reset while you're tweaking things.

Cons: The OC options are pretty good, but probably wouldn't make a champion OC'er happy.

Pros: has just about everything you would want in a mb.

Cons: After 2 months went bad..not sure why. It worked so well until the crash...not sure if im going to send back or just get a different mb yet.

2 out of 5 eggsWaste of Time!!

Pros: Stable once running...

Cons: 8GB on this motherboard is hit and miss... I have upgraded to the latest BIOS from ASUS and tried three seperate manufacturer's RAM of which two are on the QVL list. I have tried to set the timings and the voltages manually required by the RAMs but no luck. I even tried to reset the CMOS between each tries. No Luck!! As soon as you put in the 4th DIMM, the motherboard does not POST. I have spent countless hours of trying to get it to working, next step is to not use the 4th dimm.

Btw, you dont get these issues with the turbo version. Turbo naming convention is just v2 of this motherboard. Get that instead.

I am contemplating to get it RMA'd so that they will repair or give me a different one but I dont want to be without my main computer for weeks!! I read that it takes about 5 WEEKS - I cannot be that long without my main computer.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid at all costs!

Pros: Nice manuals, I guess. And a lot of PCI and PCI-E ports.

Cons: I've built several computers before, but this is the first-time I've used a "name brand" motherboard, and unfortunately, I've had but problems. I can honestly say I've been happier with the cheap ECS boards that are thrown in as part of combo packages.

Problems with this motherboard include inability to support 8 GB RAM without upgrading firmware, as well as occasional difficulty booting up (usually fixed by unplugging all peripherals and clearing CMOS). I've also had the onboard sound completely fail.

ASUS technical support requires that you ship your motherboard to their facility at your own cost, a process that would take weeks. I suppose this is okay if you're the type that builds multiple computers and loves to overclock things, but for someone that wants a computer to just work without problems, avoid this motherboard.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works most of the time. Lots of features. 6 SATA drive sockets, a bunch of USB sockets along with one PATA port.

Cons: Tried to make a tripple boot system using Windows XP, Vista and Suse Linux. Have 4 drives connected (one is storage only) and I've had significant problems with drives not showing up sometimes. Found that I had to unplug the power supply completely when it acted up to get it to boot and show all drives again. Finally moved the Linux OS to a USB input with an adapter and I've had fewer problems since.

Other Thoughts: This board has worked well since I switched the Linux drive to USB. I've used ASUS boards in the past with zero problems but this one and a P5K Pro I bought have given me some trouble. In fact, the P5K Pro still gives me fits even after I RMAd it last year.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat mobo, bait and switch rebate

Pros: Excellent motherboard, high quality, more features than you'd ever need. I've been through many a board, but none as nice as this one.

Cons: It wont make me coffee in the morning?

Other Thoughts: REBATE WAS A RIPOFF. The rebate I bought this board with was a no show. After months of waiting I was told, incorrectly, that I failed to meet the time requirements for turning in the rebate. NOT TRUE. I was sure of this, the postage date was well within time... If anyone was late it was their rebate company. This is the same rebate company (Velocity Fulfillment, Inc.) that pulled the same con for my Corsair memory.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy

Pros: Lots of features... This is a follow-up after my previous review....

Cons: I am not generalizing the board. In my particular case... it is unreliable.... I purchased this board 7/15/08. I have not been able to get it into production, too many problems: (a) not enough power on USB to power external 2.5" drives; (b) RAID-5 does not see more than four drives (ASUS support said it was a bad ICH10R). I tried to live with those problems until I discovered that it intermittent corrupt data. This is on a new build (OS no apps)... I throughly test the problem by changing drive cables, moving drives to different ports. Corruption occurs on different brand new drives (so it's not the drives). I RMA it for repair. When it came back, I restarted a new build. With the OS and Windows explorer to drag and drop file copy. Data got corrupted during the copy process.

Other Thoughts: I am hoping that ASUS replaces this MB instead of repairing it again and also gives me a new 3 years warrantly, since I have not been able to use this particular MB at all.... This is the absolute horror MB. My first out of personal pocket PC was the IBM XT with a whopping 640KB and 5 Meg HD.... I have been building and fixing them ever since... so yeah, I know a little bit about PC.... I have not use ASUS product for a long, long time after I got burned with a volume purchase of 100+ MBs for a corporate upgrade... the problem was acid residue on the MB and humidity.... I used and had problem with Gigabyte and MSI as well..... This is not a good welcome back to ASUS for me..... BTW, don't go by my comments - I am sure others have fare rather well with this MB.....

I'll follow up on ASUS response to my request for a replacment instead of more repair on this MB.....

3 out of 5 eggsLasted 364 days

Pros: Usual Asus setup--easy, quick, and simple, with plenty of room around the CPU for most coolers.

Cons: Started getting quirky, with BSOD's, inability to see cd drives, and of course, a quick death of the onboard ethernet after it pukes on itself trying to figure out what speed it's supposed to run at...things you don't expect from Asus.

Other Thoughts: Asus quality has gone down the tubes over the last 7 years. You can virtually count on the onboard ethernet to die fast on about ANY Asus mobo these days. This mobo was ok at first, but then oddities appeared like BSOD's out of nowhere, no longer seeing cd drives--I even updated the bios, only to see it finally show the cd drive, and then to have it gone again upon reboot. This is a 24/7 server--I can't have it acting up whenever it gets a notion to do so. I did all the usual tricks, like clearing the bios, replacing cables, drives, running memtest, etc. all to no avail. Asus mobo's were much better quality when they were made in Taiwan....So, it's off to Gigabyte to see if they've improved any in the last 5 yrs.

2 out of 5 eggsWell... almost

Pros: Great feature set, well-priced, helpful connectors. Seemed like it would overclock well but I never tried.

Cons: The board I received had a defective RAID controller chip. Refused to come out of suspend and caused random blue screens for several months. Using the latest BIOS, confirmed all other hardware was working (via memory/hard drive tests and use of other machines). RAID setup is very limited, too - you have to turn everything on to RAID or nothing. To launch the 'hardware' interface for the RAID you have to hit Control-I, but you can't see or do this until you've setup a RAID array in the first place.

Other Thoughts: I imagine if I hadn't been using RAID the board would have worked just fine...
