Asus has long had a notable reputation within the overclocking community and their P6T WS Pro motherboard builds on that tradition. Based on Intel's X58 Express and ICH10R chipsets, this ATX board is ready to host the newest LGA1366 Core i7 processors for ultimate powerful performance.
Up to 24GB of DDR3 1333 RAM can be installed with triple channel mode for increased performance. Get even more performance – up to 2000Mhz – through overclocking. Dual PCI-Express 2.0 x16 cards can be mounted for cutting-edge graphic power with support for either NVIDIA SLI or ATI CrossFireX. 100% all high-quality conductive polymer capacitors give longer life and higher energy efficiency by supplying power to vital components independently.
Get eight channels of HD sound from the ADI AD2000B audio chipset for pure, clear audio. Connect up to six SATA drives at 3Gb/s for high-speed data transfers as well as the option for multiple RAID configurations. Integrated dual Gigabit Ethernet LAN allows bottleneck-free connections to other network devices at broadband speeds and eight USB 2.0 ports allows for nearly unlimited possibilities in connecting peripheral devices.
Pros: Linux 2.6.28 up and running as-is. Fan and temp support via bleeding-edge lm-sensors. No driver issues. 12G, a 920 with eight virtual cores, this is the no-brainer Linux workstation combo to buy this year.
Cons: "Legacy USB Support" must be turned off as recent Linux refuses to boot with it on or you need to boot with iommu=off [The linux IOMMU/DMAR engine reports a memory range setup error in the BIOS and halts the boot with an error. Perhaps we'll see a firmware fix]. Earlier kernels (eg, 2.6.17) don't seem to care because they didn't go looking for the problem.
LGA1366 seems easy to mis-seat without any way to tell. I had a mystery 'bad' DIMM slot and weird driver errors the first boot; it was all due to a mis-seated CPU that looked perfect. Been gold since reinserting it. Can't blame that on ASUS.
Other Thoughts: Just for fun, I briefly played with the overclock and had it running Linux rather nicely at DDR3-1666 and 3.2GHz with both the Zalman and the BIOS set to 'silent mode' without a hiccup but decided I wanted reliable/quiet way more than speed. It delivers on either side!

Perfect for Photoshop
Reviewed By: Phil Madman on 3/2/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Rock Solid. Built a workstation for Photoshop and Lightroom. i7 920 3.6GHz using a Thermalright Ultra 120. 12GB of OCZ 1600 Platinum RAM. Not one crash or any other weirdness including a few hours of Prime95. eSATA built-in is very handy and audio is as noise free as I've heard with on board sound.
Cons: Don't personally need the SAS ports or most of the slots.
Other Thoughts: This board seems to be getting a lot of bad reviews for esoteric reasons by seemingly cranky people. I had to write and counter their experiences with one that has been totally positive.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Easy build.
Cons: Tried to build a high-end computer over the weekend. Used an ASUS P6T WS Pro motherboard from NewEgg. When I finished, I installed Windows 7 as the operating system, popped in the disc that came with the board to install drivers and utilities -- everything came to a screeching halt as there is apparently no support for Windows 7. Can this be true on such an expensive board? At this price, what a screw up!

Nice board, not quite LGA1366?
Reviewed By: linuxamoeba on 11/20/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: Nice set of features; even a pair of PCI-X slots! Runs beautifully out of the box with Ubuntu 10 Server. The little card with the BIOS post messages is cute.
Cons: I am running a Xeon, and got Intel's STS100A heatsink to cool it. ASUS has put a bunch of capacitors right next to the socket, so Intel's huge, flat heatsinks do not fit. So, it might not conform exactly to the LGA1366 standard. I am using the standard heatsink/fan from the Core i7, and it's working fine. Just beware.
Other Thoughts: I have had nothing but trouble from past Realtek onboard NICs on ASUS boards. I hope these go away soon.

Support? What support?

Pros: Excellent board, lots of features. Everything worked right out the box with 2 WD Raptor drives in RAID, Core i7 975 Extreme and 12GB of RAM.
Be sure you know what you're doing, otherwise you're on your own with drivers, support and features.
Cons: ASUS support is horrible! Asus advertises this board to have LAN teaming, yet no drivers for neither XP, 2003, Vista or Win7 are provided. The one that is available on support site has files with 0kb! I mean, can they check files before uploading?
Called tech support, they had no clue either. Offered to exchange the board. Why exchange the board when there are no drivers?
Other Thoughts: I have been using ASUS boards for some time, but what happened to their support? Corrupted files on support site, clueless tech support and no response on forums. ASUS, what happened?
I have considered other ASUS products, but never again.
