Asus has a regular rep for creating great motherboards, and the Asus P5S800-VM is no exception. Designed to support Intel’s Pentium 4 Prescot or Celeron CPUs, this board supports a 800MHz FSB and up to 4GB of dual-channel DDR2 800/533/400 memory. Combined with the board’s ability for Hyper-Threading, system performance soars to new heights. The SiS 655FX and the SiS 964 are used for the Northbridge and the Southbridge and two slots for 184-pin DDR 400 memory can hold a maximum of 2GB of Dual Channel RAM, ensuring great speed and steady graphics.
With enough expansion slots (1x AGP 4X/8X, and 3 PCI) to connect peripherals such as graphics or TV tuner card, it includes an onboard SiS Mirage graphics engine which is able to accelerate DVD playback, and 2 SATA RAID connections allow you to connect high speed hard drives to your systems for more than enough memory to store all the music, videos and games you might want! With the ASUS EZ Flash feature, you can update the BIOS before entering the operating system, which means that the DOS-based flash utility and bootable diskette are no longer required. This board has all the features you need to help you build a true multimedia powerhouse.

ASUS Could do better
- Pros: No Pros to talk about when product was DOA.
As always Newegg is great and hope they remain that way.
- Cons: ASUS customer service is atrocious. I think once you achieve a brand recognition you tend to not be bothered by providing good service.
I had to return the Item to Newegg, and since i had bought a Processor and some memory to go with the MB and I could not test those items I had to return the whole stuff back and thus was charged restocking fees for the CPU and memory.
- Other Thoughts: Wish there was a way Newgg would on the site recommend what MB's went with CPU's and Memory and vice-versa in case someone were buying any of them individually or as a combo unit.
Wonderful entry level board....
- Pros: Cheap, Set of IDE contollers, decent video, SiS chipset much more trustworthy than anything VIA makes.
- Cons: Support for EM64T based processors was not on original BIOS. Had to order a 530J P4 to flash the bios with on several boards before deployment. Most current BIOS supports most of the processors out there. If any question consult asus website before purchasing. You need a processor to flash the bios with.
- Other Thoughts: Great board for entry level workstations, especially if wanting to recycle IDE hard drives.

Asus rocks
- Pros: 50 bucks for these features, cant beat that. I got this one for a secondary machine I use for LAN parties. Works great!
- Cons: I've had NO problems with this board at all.
- Other Thoughts: P4P800E, 2X 10000 rpm raptor drives in a RAID 2+0 array, 3.2 intel chip running at 3.6, 2-Plextor dvd drives 1 sata 1 ide, 4Ghz of mushkin ddr500, 650W antec power, ATI capture card, 250Gb WD sata storage drive, xp pro on the raptors and linux in an 40 Gb WD, envida 7800GS video card, totall of 8 fans, in an siverstone aluminum case. There's not much I cant do with this baby!
Solid board - after BIOS updates
- Pros: Asus tech support has always helped me out when I can't figuer something out with theri motehrbaords. Like for this one, you need to update the bios and make a SATA driver disc to load windows XP.
- Cons: got the bootup error CPU uCode loading error. but it still ran fine after pressing F1. After the BIOS update I did not get that message anymore.
If you are installing a SATA drive to load windows, you need to make a driver floppy and press F6 as soon as the instal for windows loads for RAID drivers.
- Other Thoughts: Asus is a solid board, and I always get them to work. even if this one took a little extra effort, it's still as solid as all the others.
No problems found...
- Pros: Love it! Went in the 1st computer I built. No problems found. Nice options for ports for the price at the time I bought it (2004, when socket LGA775 was new)
- Cons: Don't know if it can over clock, never tried...
- Other Thoughts: I have taken apart the computer that this mother board is in 15 different times for demonstrations, and have applied the thermal paste that many times. I have also tortured this motherboard as I have dropped it 6 times. Still works as well as the day I got it, ASUS should be proud of the quality of their boards.
