Asus has a regular rep for creating high performance motherboards, and the Asus P4S800D-X is no exception. Designed to support Intel’s Pentium 4 Prescot or Celeron CPUs, this board supports a 800MHz FSB and up to 4GB of dual-channel DDR2 800/533/400 memory. Combined with the board’s ability for Hyper-Threading, system performance soars to new heights.
The SiS 655FX and the SiS 964 are used for the Northbridge and the Southbridge and four slots for 184-pin DDR 400 memory can hold a maximum of 4GB of Dual Channel RAM, ensuring killer speed and smooth graphics. With enough expansion slots (1x AGP 4X/8X, and 5 PCI) to connect enhancements to your system and 2 SATA RAID connections allow you to connect high speed hard drives to your systems for more than enough memory to store all the music, videos and games you might want! This board has all the features you need to help you build a true multimedia monster.

It's Not The Board's Fault
- Pros: The SiS chipset is extremely stable, the board supports 4gb ram, the sata works great (both raid and single) and it supports a huge range of procs -- from 400 fsb celerons to very respectable 800fsb prescotts. This is an excellent board for either an experienced or first time builder. First timers: don't let the negative comments worry you - read the manual, take your time and check on the net for info. All the features do work. Folks say some of these exact things about nearly every mobo. It's usually in the manual though.
- Cons: Nothing with the board. It has all the features it claims to have. It is not the best OC board, but that is no surprise with this chipset. If you want better OC (about 10% better for me), Asus makes boards with the Intel 865PE chipset that will make you happy. HOWEVER, the ASUS support site is NOT very good. Downloading drivers is slow -- the "europe" mirror gave me the best transfer rates, but these were still very low -- as they have been each of the dozens of times I have visited this site in the last couple of years. Can't comment on the personal tech support as I have never used it.
- Other Thoughts: Most of the neg. comments about this board are clear cases of lack of experience or lack of attention to detail. Don't be put off, but do your homework. If you want to use sata raid for this or almost any other motherboard, you will need to make an F6 disk -- common knowledge to anyone after a few builds. Those "erratic beeps" are indicating the results of the POST routine. If you hear more than one, you have a problem (usually a connection). Again, check the manual or the web. If you want to know what procs this or any other board supports, check their website under "supported processors." If a diag. tells you your battery is low, then buy a 2032 batt at Wal-mart or the closest drug store. Since many who had these and other easily solved concerns reprted their knowledge as high, it is understandable that some folks doing their first build might be worried. Don't be. Just read the manuals and check the websites.
READ ME-VERY INPORTANT
- Pros: This is avery good board.
- Cons: Need to Make a SIS SATA Driver Disk. Read On for More Info
- Other Thoughts: OK heres the deal alot of people have had problems getting SATA to work with XP and you need to know this in order to make it work right.
1. Befor you install the XP (OS) take the CD and load it in a working computer. 2. Dont install any software just brows the CD and go to the following location on the CD: Drivers\RAID\SiSRAID\DriverDisk 3. Make a driver disk by clicking on MakeDisk in that folder and follow the proptes. 4. Now try to install XP and when i says "To Install 3rd part RAID or SATA press F6" press F6 put the disk into the floppy drive and follow the instructions.
This info is very inportant and I think Newegg as well as ASUS should include this infomation on their site as well as with the mobo. I am cerrently e-mailing both regarding this.
