ICON Loading...

Offering the best of both generations, the ECS PT880PRO-A (V1.0A) Motherboard is a great board if you're looking for a future-proofed motherboard still compatible with most of your existing system. Built around the VIA PT880 PRO and VT8237R chipsets and supporting the faster Pentium 4 HT processors with 800 MHz FSB, it has a PCI Express Lite slot as well as the AGP slot capable of supporting your current AGP card. Once you upgrade to PCI-E, it won't be rendered useless. The PCI Express Lite interface also supports multiple displays.

The ECS PT880PRO-A (V1.0A) supports both Dual Channel DDR400/333 and DDR2 533/400 memory, with maximum of 2 gigabytes. Its on-board Realtek ALC655 audio CODEC delivers clear 6-channel sound, whereas the integrated VIA VT6103L LAN chipset offers easy Internet connectivity. It has four ATA connectors (2 x SATA + 2 x PATA) and four PCI expansion slots, and 4 USB 2.0 ports that 480 Mbps data transfers.

Keep playing both sides of the upgrade fence for awhile, and let ECS keep you in the game without rebuilding a whole new box!

4 out of 5 eggsECS Motherboards

Pros: This motherboards has lot of options for memory and video cards a plus in my book. It has an easy bios set-up with some nice bios features. My first motherboard was DOA but newegg is great for replacements.

Cons: I had a little trouble with my case and the front sound connectors the pins were a little to far back on the motherboard to connect them. I wish it came with pci x16 for my video card.

Other Thoughts: The bottom line on this motherboard is it can be had for under 50 for a low end cost to upgrade thats not bad. If you want new advanced features you will have to spend more.

4 out of 5 eggsehh

Pros: Pretty fast for the price, DDR and DDR2 was a plus, also fairly easy to install

Cons: A capacitor near the processor made the heatsink/fan not fit so i had to buy a new one that did fit. No onboard video was definetally a downside.

Other Thoughts: Runs any games i throw at it no problem.

2 out of 5 eggsNot the one

Pros: It has two slots for agp and pci-e Lite so you can use two kinds of video cards. DDR2 533mhz but thats a thing of the past real fast in a blast.

Cons: Well just your averate Joe I would not recomend this motherboard due to the advances in technology.

Other Thoughts: I had to get an rma for the first motherboard I hope this not going to happen again.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for the Price

Pros: Very cheap for HT, 800Mhz FSB, DDRI & DDRII, SATA(not the best though), and AGP 8x. Hasn't crapped or anything like other people's. Even comes with an overclocking utility in the BIOS. Flashing them was a snap, just d/l the amiflash utility from the ECS website, and *bam* you're done. Has been running solid since the day I got it. Zero hiccups. For the price, can't be beat.

Cons: WATCH THIS PCI-E LITE BUSINESS. This mobo is dead serious when it says which cards it will support and which ones it won't. ECS is also very unhelpful when it comes to support, since they are based in Taiwan afterall. If you want a PCI-Express build, get a different board, but for AGP 8x, this is your board. Also, for the list of compatible video cards, it hasn't been updated since sometime in '05, and i e-mailed ECS about if they're going to update it, and got some lame a-- response, so watch it.

Other Thoughts: I have a P4 3Ghz, 2GB G.Skill 533Mhz DDRII, GeForce 6800 ultra 256MB AGP 8x, 160GB Seagate IDE. Runs all these games (Oblivion, BF2/BF2142, NFS: Most Wanted) at max or near it without any problems.

1 out of 5 eggsAwful mobo terrible company

Pros: No pros in the words of my freind "it looks good"

Cons: where to begin? Its ECS for one thing, never gonna buy from them ever again. The mother board was DOA I didn't even bother getting it replaced I just got a different Intel board. This is my second ECS mobo the first one died 4 months after I got it and the drivers were awful and the soundcard never worked. Do yourselfs the favor, pay the extra money and find a different better board you'll be glad you did

4 out of 5 eggsGood Mobo

Pros: Solid board, good features, PCI express lite and AGP, worked fine out of the box, great starter board, low price.

Cons: The only problem I've had with this board, is tat the the connections for the PWR and HDD LEDs are a little quirky. I have 2 boards, on 1, the HDD works fine, on the other, the PWR LED.

Other Thoughts: Other than the LED quirkiness, the board has worked flawlessly. I haven't contacted ECS yet about a possible fix, they're in my and my wife's personal PC's, haven't had time just to worry about front panel LEDs.

3 out of 5 eggsDon't be fooled

Pros: -Cheap
-Easy
-Fast

Cons: -Not really PCIe x16: the "PCIe Lite" is really just a shoddy x4 with an x16 label.
-Poor build quality

5 out of 5 eggsDDR I & II support

Pros: Unbelievable! This motherboard supports DDR I and II memory. It's good to upgrade without paying extra money for the memory. I have two 1GB Corsair DDR400 memory. I don't want to give those memories up yet.

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: It's a good idea to have that kind of memory feature on a motherboard. Things change too fast. It's hard for me to catch and invest too much money.
