Cheap but cheerful

Pros: Cheap, SLI (8x PCIe), 4 SATA, Runs Linux like a champ, accepts dual core X2s

Cons: Obsolete. Flakey BIOS init of RAM. Might be picky about power supply, has a fan on the Southbridge

Other Thoughts: This board is inexpensive and has basic SLI support. I have two non-sli (6200s) video cards in mine and they work very well under Linux using the binary Nvidia driver.

The only fly in the ointment is the memory support which is common with all NForce4 boards. If you try and populate all four memory slots with DDR400 there is no guarantee it will work.

According to the manual double row memory sticks, the most common 1GB type, get downgraded to PC2700 if your timing is set to 2T and PC1600 if your timing is set to 1T. I personally couldn't get it to recognize more than 6 rows out of a possible 8 using 4 banks of 1GB DIMMS with PC3200 CL3; effectively only recognizing 3GB of RAM.

So as long as you don't put in more than 3GB of memory in this generation of motherboard you should be fine. Other than that it's pretty stable most of time.

Really bad

Pros: It worked fine without any issues for the first 5 months...

Cons: then without any (software/hardware) changes one day it did not boot. On the screen I've got "Detecting array...". This message seems to be related with RAID but I'm using just an IDE and RAID was never activated from BIOS. No solution worked so far!

Other Thoughts: Now I'm waiting for at least 3 weeks to get my MoBo fixed from ECS. Hopefully I'll get it back and it will work fine!
My advice is: DO NOT BUY IT!
