2 out of 5 eggsMight want to go look for something else

Pros: Decent board for price
It allows for automated overclocking, but didn't trust it enough to try
Will fit the old AMD sockets

Cons: stupid thing blew 2 capacitors after 3 months of minimal use. Problem is, i now have to get another board after 3 months.

I bought this board to replace an old outdated mobo that had fried itself (4 years+ old). the only use this mobo had was to browse the internet and play some cheap kids games online (minecraft and a few facebook games). The case i used had all the proper ventilation needed for a gaming computer just to make sure heat was not an issue (bought it with the mobo). i also had it on an expensive battery UPS to negate any power surges or loss of power. however, what killed it seemed to be clicking on the internet.

Other Thoughts: personally, spend a few more dollars and get a better name. they have more quality in their parts.
Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but when i buy a board, i expect at the very least, for it to last 2 years. i never understood the game of building things to fail, when, in electronics, they will be outdated by the end of the year. I guess in this day of age, you get exactly what you pay for.

Basically, go to the $100 range. At least at that point the manufacturer would be willing to replace it, regardless of what manufacturer you go through

2 out of 5 eggsFirst one DOA, 2nd doesn't run new graphics cards

Pros: 2x ethernet, 6x SATA, 2x PCIe x16. Uses cheap AM2 socket cpus, which is why I bought it.

Cons: First motherboard I bought was DOA and Newegg made me pay $15 shipping to return it. The 2nd one works, but I bought this motherboard for running OpenCL GPU processing. However, the only high-end graphics card I could run on it so far was a Nvidia GTX 460. None of the ATI cards I tried from different vendors worked. I tried a Sapphire 5970, Gigabyte 5850 and XFX 5870.

Other Thoughts: It is medium to large size and fills up a medium tower easily pushing 5.25 optical drive bays.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA Mobo

Pros: None

Cons: Motherboard arrived DOA, the LED code kept going to "45" which there isn't an entry for in the manual. Send in a tech help request to Biostar and they responded to RMA the board.

Other Thoughts: Sent RMA into Newegg for a replacement board, we'll see how board #2 works out...

1 out of 5 eggsFAILED BIOSTAR MOTHERBOARD

Pros: None

Cons: Wanted to use this motherboard as a replacement board for an AMD system. This motherboard had two capacitors fail in a month. Will not buy another biostar motherboard again.

Other Thoughts: One month return policy is not enough. Will need to reconsider another motherboard source.

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry about the troubles, please don't hesitate to contact Biostar support staff to assist you, 626-581-1055 menu 2 or email support@biostar-usa.com

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Newegg shipped this fast

Cons: It was dead on the doorstep.

Other Thoughts: My mobo died on me after years of good asus service and I was looking for another that wouldnt require me replacing everything along with it. This board looked fantastic. Thought I would give it a shot. Had to RMA it and after a week I still have yet to hear anything form the mnfg. Not real thrilled with the service and I dont know that a biostar board will be in my future plans with service like this.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: None.

Cons: Almost every capacitor on the board popped about 3 weeks in. light use on the board at most. RMA'd the board and received a refund (the rma is another story) as they were out of stock.

2 out of 5 eggsWish I could say...

Pros: DOA....No idea. Looks like a nice setup tho.

Cons: Well other than the fact it was dead...............

Other Thoughts: Its frustrating. I got 3 codes on a digi readout. One for booting, the second for loading chipset and the 3rd wasnt in the guid so I sent off a email to their tech support. They said that code was an indication of trouble with the board so off to RMA land I went. They got it today so I just wait to see how long it takes them to replace it. Its frustrating to have this happen, but thats life.

Manufacturer Response:

Thanks for the review and sorry for trouble.

Pros: Good looks.

Cons: DOA. What can I say?

Other Thoughts: Previous motherboard was a Biostar as well. Got this one because the other one died. Won't do it again.

3 out of 5 eggsInspect before using

Pros: Many features, fairly robust, decent components, bio-remote 2. Connectors and components mostly placed correctly to not hinder setup or air flow. LED display debug on motherboard and power/memory status LEDs are nice.

Cons: Only two fan connectors, not including the CPU. Video card retaining clips won't serve purpose with strong enough jolt. Incomplete manual, does not cover half of the BIOS. Only supports up to 4GB, should be 8GB. Also, you can use 2x2GB modules. Memory slots a bit too close to the CPU, so you can't use anything big on either the CPU nor the memory. Disables rear audio if you use front audio. The capacitors are "solid" but the inductors have a cheaper appearance.

Other Thoughts: First board came opened and defective. After installing motherboard it gave me a 45 error, which is not in the manual because it's a generic code according to a Biostar rep. After removing and inspecting the board I found solder webbing/bridging all over the through hole components on the underside. Newegg was nice and quick about helping me with the RMA process. Second board was sealed this time although it still had minor solder webbing/bridging which I cleaned up. After a full day of gaming my wife's computer is still functional, so we'll see. Thankfully it has a decent warranty. One thing that worries me is that it's not reading the CPU's temperature, but the setup runs mostly cool under load so I'm not too worried. Whatever EMS Biostar goes through, probably foreign, doesn't know how to run their select solder/solder wave machine very well nor do they apparently inspect or test the product. I've got some great pictures of the webbing, too bad it's a video review only.

4 out of 5 eggsStable

Pros: Excellent board, stable no real problems, drivers are pretty easy to find for Win XP x86/64. Easy install with no problems. The eSATA is a definite bonus for moving large files between PCs.

Cons: At least one more onboard Fan slot would be nice, I was short one without adding any extra fans. Also, a lot of extras come with this board that seem unnecessary (headset, USB adapters). I ended up throwing most of it away.

Other Thoughts: I'd recommend this board to anyone looking for consistent, stable performance with very little maintenance.
