Excellent for the price
- Pros: Board is fast for the price. Has PCIe & AGP on it. Micro-atx & the mobile chip makes it good for smaller computers & low power systems
- Cons: the onboard nic is not supported under FreeBSD 5.4, but didn't matter for me as I'm using a gigabit nic instead.
- Other Thoughts: I swapped this out for an older motherboard, no issues with FreeBSD starting up and redetecting all the hardware. I'm not sure if the soundcard & video are supported well under BSD or Linux, as I'm just using it as a samba server, and use none of those features on it.
Don't get if you want to use Linux
- Pros: It's inexpensive and comes with a nice set of features for the price. I bought it with the intentions of building a PVR based on MythTV for Linux.
- Cons: This sucker has ZERO support in the Linux community. I've tried the latest versions of Ubuntu, Mandriva, Xandros, Linspire, and Suse and none of them can handle the SiS965L chipset on this board. I'm not a linux expert so I can't go out and find drivers, compile my own code, etc.
Anyway, Windows XP and Windows MCE have no trouble with it.
- Other Thoughts: If you would to build a cheap little Windows box...this board is awesome. If you want to build any other kind of box...good luck!
good for a cheap build.
- Pros: hey, not for high detail gaming or anything, but if you want to build a decent workstation, and have the option to run some decent games on your old AGP card or want to do what I did, gave my dad some of my old system parts to build a great little computer thats great for him to surf the web and play some Sid Myers. oh, yeah and the processor is fast for such a cheap little combo.
- Cons: 800 mhz FSB wont support Vista when it comes out. you'll need 1000 mhz.
one PCI-E slot.
- Other Thoughts: people who think this is a 64 bit processor parent paying attention. you have the ability to upgrade the processor to a 64 bit, if you want. This is because the Board supports a 64 bit processor, if you want a 64 bit, you are still going to have to buy one. but if thats your goal, go for something a little better/newer: such as a board with an AM2 socket or something comperable. you shouldn't be buying this if you think you are going to build a monster PC.
