the best high powered auto-fan controller solution availble
- Pros: This auto-fan controller stands out not in its list of features - which is somewhat esoteric - but in its ability to handle high-powered fans. I've had some controllers burn out on me because they simply couldn't handle the power of the fan(s) I put on them. I don't know of any auto-fan controller that can handle 0.8 A per channel, 1.5 A total. It does this by using pulse-width modulation instead of by using resistors, which tend to burn up. By switching the power on and off instead of turning unused power into heat through a resistor, it can achieve much higher power than the average auto-fan controller.
- Cons: The major drawback to this technology is that because the power is constantly switching on and off, it really throws off the RPMs because the RPM readers all depend on little pulses of electricity coming over the RPM wire. Because the power to the fan is constantly going off and on, it generates pulses of its own on the RPM wire, making it impossible to calculate the RPMs. Hence, there is no RPM display on the controller.
The display sucks, that's all there is to it. Unless you are right in front of the display (and who habitually stares right into the face of their rig while using it???) you cannot read it.
- Other Thoughts: Oddities:
Why include a time, date and alarm clock function (that isn't very accurate at all)?
It has a power indicator, but since the controller shuts down with the rest of the computer, what good is that???
meh
- Pros: looks pretty and fit well with my case
- Cons: Sets fan speeds relative to temperature. I was under the impression that a fan controller would let me manually control the fans rather than it be completely automatic. A waste of money if you ask me, as it's not at all feature rich.
- Other Thoughts: i'm getting something new
NOT GOOD!
- Pros: It worked for a month and it did its job well. The case was cooler and much quieter.
- Cons: After a month it stopped working. No fans that are connected to it work. I contacted the manufacturer and they never responded. I'm very disappointed.
