Not up to snuff
- Pros: Well-made
Long cables
- Cons: Odd mounting requirements
Odd screw placement Odd audio behavior
- Other Thoughts: First off, though the matte black steel looked great, there were no mounting holes where you expected them to be; I had to drill my own to attach the thing to my case.
Secondly, after connecting the audio cables, plugging a headset into the appropriate ports didn't silence the master volume as the rear ports of my Intel motherboard did The USB and Firewire ports worked fine.
- Pros: Very easy to plug into the motherboard headers for firewire and USB, audio and mic are a little tricky, but the plugs are clearly marked.
- Cons: This simply does not fit any case without major modifications. I have installed it in four different cases within the past year, and because it is so shallow it never reaches the screw holes meant for floppy drives. I have even tried it on a "tool-less" case, and it absolutely would not fit.
- Other Thoughts: After drilling this unit and my cases full of extra holes, it works just like it should.
- Pros: The components function as they are supposed to.
- Cons: The frame is very shalow and only has one screw holoe in either side. Using these holes the panel sat back about one inch from being flush with the outside panel of my case. I had to drill new holes in oerder to get it to fit. The labels on the wires do not match up with any standard that I've seen. I had to try and retry until it worked.
- Other Thoughts: as someone else has already pointed out, there is an onboard connector for the firewire, not a plug as is pictured. All in all, I suppose you get what you pay for.
