ATI's X800 series of cards has been one of its most successful. The X800 GTO is, however, a classical example of why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Under the skin of the GTO version lurks an R480 core, not the R430, standard on other X800's. This permits overclocking and BIOS mods to the serious enthusiast's content.

The X800 GTO powers through 3D games with 12 Pixel Pipelines, 256MB onboard memory and 256-bit memory interface. Featuring a quiet and cool single-slot design and ATI's breakthrough image enhancement technologies, the Sapphire X800 GTO AGP card unearths the true graphics potential of your AGP-based PC and pushes its performance to the next level.

  • newegg Award-winning RADEON X800 Technology Based on the 0.13 micron, low-k manufacturing process and combined with ultra-fast and efficient GDDR3 memory, the RADEON X800 GTO produces extreme data rates and unbelievable acceleration in a quiet and cool single-slot solution.
  • newegg Breakthrough Image Quality ATI's 3Dc image enhancement technology is the industry standard supporting complex high-definition and real-time visual effects resulting in significant improvements to image detail with increased performance and lower memory usage for incredibly life-like characters and realistic scenery.
  • newegg Technologically Advanced 3D Architecture The Radeon X800 GTO features SmartShader HD, the advanced pixel shader engine with 12 pixel pipelines and 6 programmable vertex shader pipelines, to deliver beautifully rendered high-definition 3D animation for intense and interactive game play.
  • newegg Cutting Edge Video Technology Cutting-edge VideoShader HD technology allows the RADEON X800 GTO to take advantage of its advanced shader processing engine for programmable video effects, video quality enhancements, and encoding and decoding for MPEG1/2/4, Real Media, DivX and WMV9 video. Support for the latest high-definition and wide display formats results in more immersive movie and gaming experiences.
  • newegg Windows Vista Ready ATI is working in partnership with Microsoft to unlock the potential of the new Windows Aero 3D desktop using ATI's high performance graphics processors, including the RADEON X800 GTO. Don't let graphics be a barrier to a premium experience - upgrade to ATI. Windows Vista, powered by ATI, is a new visual dimension for business and personal computing.

5 out of 5 eggsBought for Oblivion

Pros: Bought this so I could play Oblivion on my XP2600+. It plays very well. It was worth the purchase.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have re-discovered other games. Far Cry and Halo kick at higher resolutions. I am a happy camper. I wanted nvidia but I always seem to buy ATI and like it.

5 out of 5 eggsnice card

Pros: I loved this card, it was everything the reviews said it would be. I can now run Oblivion of high quality! came with 16 pipelines out of the box for me, overclocking is decent i keep it low to be on the safe side. great card for your money.

Cons: heard it ran hot so i bought an AVC-AT1. brackets fit perfectly, also its bulky putting in case with the cooler on, had to move my harddrive around and a little nervous that it might just fall and break from the weight but its ok.

Other Thoughts: even with all the cons i still give this card a five cause its probably one of the best cards for agp, i cant wait to play FEAR and PREY now.

5 out of 5 eggsX800GTO

Pros: 16 pipelines, awesome graphics card, recieved in like 2 days =D
made all my pc games look freakin awesome (used to have a mx4000)

Cons: not much... maybe it runs a little hot sometimes

Other Thoughts: before this card, I could only play half life 2 on low settings... and it'd still lag and have low framerates, couldn't play BME2. now I can play both on high settings =D !!

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT BUY

Pros: You won't get better performance for the price. It took me a long time to find a card this good for so little money. I was lucky and got the 16 pipe version; but 12 pipe version is easily modded. Re heat issue: my card was maxing out at 93 C- simple solution- I removed heatsink & replaced thermal grease w/ arctic silver. Maximum temperature immediately dropped to <75 C.

Cons: Heat issue, but solution may be as easy as redoing the thermal grease (see above)

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Graphics Card; Runs hot!

Pros: This is a great video card. This replaced my Radeon 9700 Pro on my Dell Dimension 8250. I can play some new games on medium setting with relative ease. Here are my specs:
Dimension 8250
3.06 GHz Pentium 4 w/HT (533 FSB)
1GB Dual Channel PC1066 RDRAM
120 GB Seagate 7200 RPM Ultra ATA/100 HDD
Sapphire Radeon X800 GTO AGP at 4x.

Cons: The heat. My room has to be at 73*F or lower or else my Dimension 8250 will reset to prevent overheating the system.

Other Thoughts: Great card; but get an addition fan!

2 out of 5 eggsNot bad, not great

Pros: Pros - great results on 3dmark and aquamark compared to my old 9600xt.

Cons: The s-video port was doa, and the heatsink/blower kinda sucks. they should have built it so that it covered all the ram. it overheated on me on wow with mid-range graphic settings. wow isn't a real demanding game, and the room temperature was only (roughly) about 75 degrees.

5 out of 5 eggsCould Be Better

Pros: Stock unlocked 16 pixel pipelines, Pretty much an X800XL right out of the box. Blue PCB, not red like in the picture

Cons: Extremely high operating temps... over 50 degrees C at idle, over 97 at load

Other Thoughts: Extreme performance for the price, just as good as the PCI X800XL, same clock speeds and pixel pipelines. Can play BF2 maxed out, and FEAR on high settings. Definantly need an aftermarket cooler such as the Zalman vf900.

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Excellent price, probably one of the most powerful cards available on AGP. Short of spending 300 on a 7800 GS that is. Plays FEAR, BF2, Prey, GRAW, and others, all smoothly at medium-high settings.

Cons: Runs hot. REALLY HOT.

the "art" on the heatsink is questionable.

Other Thoughts: i ended up receiving one with a blue PCB board, instead of the red one in the picture. a minor annoyance b/c my mobo is red.
