5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: great ati card

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: "my only problem is that on the tech specs by newegg the mem clock speed is said to be 980, but when i got it, it said 490mhz"
thats the clockspeed and its 490mhzx2=980mhz.
apparently you skipped every math class in existence or you got dropped as a child. either way great card

5 out of 5 eggs

Comments: Card works great. Same comments about speed and such, I want to add that the fan control works great too. Even when overclocking the motherboard the fan control is temperature sensitive and reliable. I've had trouble with other cards and fan control when overclocking the FSB. The fan is noticable when at 60% and above, but it only needs that much during gaming otherwise with proper control settings it's silent.

5 out of 5 eggsawsome card for great price

Comments: this card is amazing, i had a 9800 before getting this card and in f.e.a.r. i would get 7-12 fps on max settings, medium settings would be around 25 fps, so i would play on medium

but now with this card i get 30-70 fps on max settings, huge increase there, and on medium i get 50-110 fps

shipping was great, i used rush order bcause it was only 3$ extra and it would be refunded if they couldnt do it, so i got my card 2 days after i ordered, fastest and cheapest ,only $5, shipping ive ever seen

my only problem is that on the tech specs by newegg the mem clock speed is said to be 980, but when i got it, it said 490mhz

i failed to realise, untill recently, that newegg has it in ddr, and i was looking at mine in mhz, i think newegg should put not only the ddr but also the mhz

other then that minor prob that i had with the way they display the tech specs everything is great, i was afraid i would need a new psu cause i have a 3 year old dell dimension 8250, but it runs fine,

not 1 problem

5 out of 5 eggsBest card for this price....

Comments: It's real simple, google it, and read the reviews for this thing. It performs almost identical to the 6800GT in most cases and in some beats it(especially in NFS Unerground 2). ATI even has a patch now that can add up to 35% in doom 3, which is one of the apps where the ATI couldnt hang with the NV card. I am acnious to see those benchmarks myself... I did not purchase the card from newegg, but had I not found one for a better deal I would have....

First off, this is the first ATI card I have had in a while. I switched to this from a 6600GT and this thing has deffinatly got some punch to it. For reference purposes I will post my becnhmarks for both cards with and without overclocks. A note to keep in mind, is that, this x800xl is NO OVERCLOCKER. Not with it's current cooling setup anyways. The core idles at a cool 38-40 C with ambient at 35-36c but as soon as the temp on the chip goes up it can get as high as 57c after an hour, and by that time the ambient has reached almost 55c. So until I get a better cooler that draws air off the cards PCB I will have to keep the low OC. The OC on the 6600GT card is very high because of the custom made socket A cooler I modified for it.

Test bed:
LGA775 P4 520 2.8 @ 3.6GHz(Thermaltake silent 775)
DFI 865PE MB
512x2 Geil DDR500
WD Cavier 80GB SATA
Creative Live 5.1

6600GT:500/1000 : 594/1200
3dmark03 8,100: 10,100
3dmark05 3,300: 4,170
x800xl:398/986 : 420/1040
3dmark03 11,088: 12,800
3dmark05 5,149: 5,405

As you can see, the x800xl runs circles around this card. And it should... In raw specs, the x800xl is almost literally twice the card.. However, pound for pound I would say the 6600GT is a real winner in any case just for sheer price:performance. But the point of getting the ATI was to upgrade, and that is is exactly what it is. A major upgrade. I can not express how much better and smooth this thing runs my games. Especially with the AA and AF turned up. Unfortunitly in some games like BF2 and Fear, I can not turn textures to maximum without getting memory lags here and there. The day of 2gigs being the minumum for games is at hand!

BF2 DEMO 1024x768 6xAA 16xAF, EVERYTHING on high, 36-70 FPS

FEAR DEMO 1024x768 4xAA 16xAF
Shadows off, everything else on high, 33-80 FPS

NFS Underground 2 1024x768 6xAA 16xAF, EVERYTHING ON HIGH 27-60 FPS. This is interesting because the frames can only be brought below 35 FPS by holding the breaking and burning the tires until the screen fills with smoke...

All in all, I am impressed with the card. I must say, that although the cooler keeps the GPU pretty cool, even under full load, it is still flat to the PCB which doesn't help with keeping the heat drawn from the board itself. And due to the sheer size of this card( I hear about a half inch shorter than the 6800GT, but atleast 2 inches longer my 6600gt)hot air is trapped unerneath. I am going to get a Zalman and some ramsinks and see If I can have any luck with some better OC numbers.

I would also like to make note of the noise. The fan doesn't seem to be super loud, but the card itself is loud. This may just be my card, I have never heard anything like it. When this thing is rendering it actually makes noise from the cip itself. Sometimes clicks, sometime high pitched squeels. It does this at stock speeds. I will contact ATI and see if it's normal or not. Anyways, that's enough from me. Hope this review helps with someone's purchase decision.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible!

Comments: I bought this video card to replace my ATI Radeon 9600XT 128 MB. I couldn't be happier. The card installed with no problems and has been running great for about a week now.

Some examples of how it performs: I can run Doom 3 on Ultra at 1024x768 without any framerate lag. I can run any Halflife 2 Source Engine based game at on the highest settings with HDR at 1152x864. Other games I can run on the highest settings at 1152x864 include FarCry, MOH: Pacific Assault, Halo, and Battlefield 2. As you can see, it can handle pretty much anything.

The only thing I don't like about the card is the silly proprietary S-Video port it has. I can't use standard S-video cables with it because the pin settings are a bit different.

One thing to note if you're considering purchasing it. The card is significantly larger than some older cards. Make sure you have room in your box for it.

4 out of 5 eggsOn Fire

Comments: I gave this card a 4 since the first one I received was defective, ATI should have tested it before boxing it up. New Egg gets a 5 for giving me an RMA assigned quickly. The second card I received within 5 days of returning the defective one, thank you Newegg. Now my computer is hitting 10312 on 3DMark 2003, before 4900 on an ATI 9600.

5 out of 5 eggsVery solid vid card

Comments: I'm a WoW junkie, and this pratically doubled my framerate. I run WoW @ 1280x1024, upgraded from a ATI 9800 Pro.
I can't notice a noise difference, and the game runs smoother.
~Thanks Newegg!~
