5 out of 5 eggsW0rd

Pros: Good card, very powerful. 1024x768 res, max settings on every game (CSS, Medieval Total War 2, Oblivion, CoD, etc.), still plays 100+ fps, sometimes 200.

Cons: Too many dumb people claiming they have "High Understanding" but don't know what 2D/3D clocks are.

Other Thoughts: Definitely what the previous guy said. There are 2D clocks to oh I don't know, save energy? Since everybody was complaining it was a power hungry card. And then there are 3D clocks so you can play your games at max settings with 100 fps. If it's such a big deal, either flash your bios or use Atitool to force 3D clocks only. Next, the memory speed is DDR. The first word DDR stands for is DOUBLE. In math, that means multiply by 2. Take 725, multiply by 2, and you get 1450 mhz, the advertised speed. It's like magic eh? You kids should change your technical understanding back to Low, or None if there would ever be such an option.

5 out of 5 eggsGet Your Facts

Pros: Don't listen to the bad reviews.

Cons: Don't listen to the bad reviews.

Other Thoughts: First of all, these cards have 2D and 3D clock speeds. You need a second monitor to watch your clock speeds go up when you start a game. I have 2 monitors and I see clock speeds go up every time I start a 3D app.

Second, you people need to understand actual memory speed vs. DDR memory speed. The memory listed in your Catalyst Control Center are actual speeds - multiply it by 2 to get DDR speeds. These cards work as advertised!

Third issue is heat. These cards were designed to run at these temps. If the temps bother you, download ATiTool - a free program that lets you control fan speeds.

This card is awesome. Don't blame ATi if you don't know how to use it.

4 out of 5 eggsReply to disappointed

Pros: AA+HDR

Cons: Heat, Power hog

Other Thoughts: The Memory speed of 690 is correct sorta or atleast close to 1450
690x2=1380 and 800x2 =1600
you need to remember its DDR(3) so it gets multiplied

5 out of 5 eggsNot really a review, advice for some of the above people

Pros: Not a review, again, I DO NOT own this card... but to the people who posted above, if they read this..... the clockspeeds reported for ATI cards are the 2D clockspeeds, they are lower than the 3D clockspeeds which the card switches into for 3D applications. The lower-than-advertised speeds are normal, again, they ARE NOT a defect....

Cons: -

1 out of 5 eggsfalse speeds

Pros: The attraction to this card was the 256-bit memory interface for the 256MB memory size so that there wouldn't be any wasted potential. The price wasn't steep for the specs. The memory clock and core clock speeds were good on paper too. But everything that seemed good at the time of purchase comes into reconsideration now (see below).

Cons: Asus customer support was very poor. Advertised memory clock was false. SmartDoctor software that came with the card was useless. The card was extremely hot, constant 70-76 degrees Celsius at idle. Advertised memory clock is 1450, SmartDoctor showed this one at 690, and the slider for "overclocking" it would only go as high as 800. The slider for core clock speed could go over the advertised 625, but clicking apply or ok would only reset it to the previous speed which was far below 600. My single EVGA 7600GT (580 core clock, 750 memory clock, 256MB, 128-bit) runs EQ2 a lot better than this Asus card, and the 7600GT was at least 100 dollars cheaper.

Other Thoughts: Purchased it 10/18/06, RMA'd to return it 10/27/06, so we thought it was just bad luck to have received a defective card (no posted reviews at the time), but it's no fluke since another reviewer now said the specs aren't as advertised. Called tech 502-995-0883, but that turned out to be for motherboards only, then called # that was provided 800-362-8182; asked for my name, phone#, brief description of problem so that someone could call me back within 24hr. I called again 2 days later, told Greg that no one called me back, he didn't know what to say about the lower than advertised speeds after 45min, transferred me to lvl2 tech, was on hold for 18min, someone then answered, I gave case#, Indian accent then said 'oh you need lvl2 tech' and put me on hold, I then hung up 10min later.

Pros: Great card at a reasonable price, I think it runs pretty quiet...fan never passes %50.

Cons: Strangely the cards clock rates are 500 and 1188, when they are advertised as 625 and 1440.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice

Pros: Great card! I purchased it from Newegg without any posted reviews since there were no Sapphire x1900xt's in stock (my original choice). Glad I didn't wait!

Cons: Stock fan is a bit loud under load/initial startup.

Other Thoughts: I suggest replacing with a 3rd party cooler (I'm using the Zalman 900 with no regrets). It lowered my temps 20C! No problem running Company of Heroes. Can't wait to try overclocking it! Has some interesting software from Asus that I haven't tried using.
