The wide range of cards based on the GeForce 7600GT GPU is sometimes confusing for the novice graphics card buyer. In Gigabyte’s GV-NX76T256D-RH Silent Pipe II, you find a talented card capable of solid graphics performance that doesn’t require a noisy fan to dissipate the heat generated by the card. 12 pixel pipelines and 256 MB of onboard GDDR3 memory running at 1.4GHz will let you run your best games at their highest settings and suffer no loss of performance. You can be assured this ability will last, due to the card’s compliance with DirectX9, OpenGL 2.0, HDTV and Windows Vista compatibility for future game development.

This brilliant card incorporates several of NVIDIA’s in-house technologies to help unleash the potential of your games, and the superscalar architecture will give you deadlier demons, deeper shadows, dynamic lighting, and realistic explosions to immerse you in your virtual universe. Gigabyte’s Silent Pipe II technology allows you to vent heat from your case through the heatsink to provide more efficient cooling. You might say this is a cool card for a cooler price. Get some!

4 out of 5 eggsbeware not HDCP compliant

Pros: I've had this card for 7 months and even though it's in a smallish case, with 2 60mm fans pulling air out the back, and a beefy dual core processor, it never climbs above 53c which is well WELL within normal operating temps. I have this card driving a 42" plasma as the secondary screen while a 17" LCD monitor is the primary. I can display HD (true HD, not compressed stuff) on the plasma, and be browsing, downloading, chatting on the LCD with no stuttering.

Cons: This card might be the ONLY 7600GT that is not HDCP compliant. By every mod and home theater PC website editors reckonings the cut off point at which you may not get a card that is HDCP is in the 7600GS. According to most of them, any nVidia at 7600GT and above is automatically compliant. Guess what... this card is a souped up GS and IS NOT HDCP.

Other Thoughts: HDCP will apparently be needed once Sony completes their takeover of the future of home movie purchasing. Then, they will begin enforcing it and a lot of people are going to find that their TVs and video cards are not going to be able to talk to each other.

4 out of 5 eggsWon't fit in your BTX board/case combo

Pros: I don't know. I couldn't install it without a dremel, and I am not cutting up a nice new case for a video card. Moshker != casemodding fanboy. No offense fanboys.

Cons: Won't fit in a BTX board/case combo because of the extra slot that is necessary.

Other Thoughts: Supposed to have been a totally silent and great card. Too bad I didn't get to find out first hand.

4 out of 5 eggsNice and quiet

Pros: No fans = quiet. Temp also under control.
Works with Vista (though you will need to download latest driver from NVidia. It's not on the driver CD)
Includes a game (Civilization IV)

Cons: Take 2 slots (one for the cooling coils to stick out of the case), rendering the next PCIe x 1 slot on my MB useless.
No Vista driver included in CD; also included software doesn't work on Vista and no updates yet on Gigabyte web site.

Other Thoughts: Asus M2N-E

4 out of 5 eggsNice for a silent system

Pros: If you need silence, this is it. Installed easy, no complications.

Cons: Double wide card can block other slots on your motherboard, so plan that out in advance. To my suprise is also blocked the x1 slot behind it, not just the next slot in front of it. That's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars.

Other Thoughts: Are cheaper and smaller if you don't need a silent card, but if you do, get this.

5 out of 5 eggsSilence is Golden

Pros: Its amazing how good of a video card this is with passive cooling. All I can hear now is my power supply fan and I am changing that out next. Not only does this card cool its self, but it pulls heat out from the case as well. Simply amazing. Throw in a $30 rebate and a free DVD for Civ 4 and you cant go wrong.

Cons: Card defaults to SLI mode I think, but that could be because I have a dual video card MB but only one video card.

Other Thoughts: Fast shipping with tracking. Awesome.

5 out of 5 eggsBig Bad Card

Pros: Silent Cooling keeps your computer quiet. Thermal cooling design is a sight to behold.

Good performance (Using it for Vista upgrade, but I had to flash the BIOS on my new Asus P5B-E before the cars would play well with the new board.

Cons: Doesn't leave a lot of room for other peripherals.

Therein lies the tradeoff..

Other Thoughts: This card, as others have mentioned, is going to take up two to three PCI slots, depending on your board layout.

This thing is unwieldy, handling it for installation will take great care, as mentioned in the manual, do not press down on, or handle the card by the heat pipes as it could damage the cooling efficiency.

5 out of 5 eggsComing back for Seconds

Pros: Obvious: quite, no fan, 256MB GDDR3. This runs nearly everything well, most great.

Cons: Heatpipes get in the way of the card cooler in the Antec P180 case, so the cooler cannot have a fan mounted in it to fit. The card overheated once, black screen resulted, but modifying my case airflow resolved the issue and it has been stable for months.

Other Thoughts: I run Oblivion 1680x1050 med and hi settings, no HDR(prefer AA). Mostly smooth, some jerkiness outdoors during fights with several participants. Opteron 165 O/C 2.13Ghz, 2GB DDR. I will see if SLI'ing a second card helps here, will update the CPU later.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate your drivers!

Pros: See my previous comments.

Cons: The drivers that came with the cards did not run my system in SLI mode. Several lock ups. Downloaded new drivers from Gigabyte and everything works great now.
