Exactly What I Needed
- Pros: Works and plays well in an Nvidia 750, XP-based system. OC's easily (715 video, 850 memory in my case). Temps in Windows in the mid to upper 30s while idling, normal usage or playing a DVD. Zalman cooler does a decent job and is fairly quiet. Components are first rate, such as all solid caps.
- Cons: The Zalman cooler might add enough height to the card to bump into a side case fan (was true in my case). A flatter fan guard provided the needed clearance for a Lian Li PC-60 Plus. Otherwise, the card has been great for my application.
- Other Thoughts: The only installation hiccup was buffoonery on my part. I forgot the card has HDMI sound and couldn't figure out why Windows was pestering me for drivers after installing the video drivers. Video is definitely quicker and overall system performance seems better over the stock Nvidia 750a video. CPU usage while playing a DVD is under 8% total thanks to the card. Like Carl, I'm not a gamer and do not have a need for the latest, greatest or something that is a small furnace heatwise.
Great Card
- Pros: This card was selected as part of a new build on an AM2 socket Gigabyte board. Pondered the graphics card for some days before choosing this card. Have had substantial sucess with ATI chipsets over the years and this is no exception. Thought it a good idea to match a Gigabyte MB and Graphics card for the first time. Vist rates the Graphics and Gaming graphics at 5.9 in my machine. Absolutely no problems with this card in this new machine. Booted the first time without a single hitch. Drave a pair of Acer 22" flat panels with this card. Install has been a piece of cake. Absolutely no hitches at all.
- Cons: Haven't found any.
- Other Thoughts: As I am not a 'gamer' this video card is more than just a little bit overkill for me but but can't imagine that I'll ever get the urge to 'upgrade' the graphics
Good card
- Pros: Runs cooler than my old ATI Radeon X1800 GTO, plays Doom 3, Quake 4, Titan Quest, Marvel Ultimate Alliance with max settings. Still need to test out more games to see what this baby can handle. I love the huge Zalman fan; that thing could probably cool a small nuclear reactor (not seriously, but hey it's close). Does AA, Shaders, and everything else for gaming well. Very little slow down. Probably would do an even better job if it wasn't hooked up to my aging 17" CRT.
- Cons: Alright, so far I only have one bone to pick with this card. I read the tech specs, and under there it said that this card was "Certified for Windows Vista". Upon downloading, installing, and running Microsoft's Windows Vista Advisor, I found that it is not compatible with Vista. I will have to do more research to find out if this is accurate or not. I hope it isn't.
- Other Thoughts: Was quite easy to install, even for me, and it was the first piece of computer hardware I ever installed myself. Delivery was pretty prompt; good job Newegg :)
