OK for Linux HTPC
- Pros: Open source driver (radeonhd) in Linux works great as long as you have an up to date kernel and Xorg. Movies look wonderful at 1080p on an HDMI TV.
- Cons: Fan is tiny and therefore louder than either my stock case fan or stock CPU fan at idle speed. Not enough to disturb movie watching, though. HDMI connector is closer than I expected to the top of the low profile bracket; if your cable has a bulky connector, you may find it a tight fit.
- Other Thoughts: Got me to upgrade my Debian stable box to testing. The only "3D" game I play is Stepmania, so I cannot speak to performance in that area other than that it is adequate to move a bunch of arrows up the screen.
Have not tried to get audio going through HDMI yet, but it does show up as a sound card in lspci.
Excellent for HTPC
- Pros: Comes with full and low profile bracket, has HDMI out and is not deleted when switching to low profile bracket. I like these types of cards to have small fans because I don't want to burn them out accidently. Supports DXVA which is great because I use MPC-HC.
Windows 7 recognized everything out of the box, including audio over HDMI, I still installed the ATi drivers for best compatibility.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: First system it was in: Intel E2160, 2GB DDR2-800, Foxconn G33M, Windows 7 x64.
Current system: Intel E6300, 2GB DDR-800, Dell Optiplex 745 OEM mobo, Windows 7
Radeon 4350 Failed
- Pros: Low profile, not bulky, quiet fan good response while it worked under Win XP and Win 7 ultimate. Would buy again for price and performance.
- Cons: Died (no signal/video) 2 days after Newegg return policy expired. Now will have to deal with manufacturer for a replacement.
- Other Thoughts: Good thing that my motherboard has onboard video that i can use until i get a replacement. Read up on realibility before you buy!
