good teevee
- Pros: Works flawlessly with Windows MCE and Pinnacle Studio
- Cons: None, it does what it is supposed to do.
- Other Thoughts: I did not install Beyond TV at all, so I can't evaluate; I use a VCR and Pinnacle Studio to capture old VHS tapes. Both audio and video signals from the composite connector through the ATI AVStream analog capture driver into Studio are sharp and pure.
For Windows XP Media Center Only
- Pros: This is a complete system (tuner, remote, usb remote receiver, breakout input box) that works great with MS Win Media Center. Its like having TIVO on your computer with no montly fee and a free guide. I love skipping the commercials. We've recorded a months worth of series and had no problems. The remote is great.
We love using it in the living room but I'd see it as a must have for dorm, bedroom, or small living quarters.
Newegg is not clear here; This is designed for MCE. Use MCE and you will be happy.
- Cons: Note: The radio doesn't work until after you've configured the TV tuner. As always, download the latest drivers off the net.
- Other Thoughts: Have realistic expections on TV quality. Its never going to look good if you sit up close with the image blown up on your high resolution monitor. Sit back and its fine or watch in window.
Quality Control Iffy....
- Pros: Once you get it tweaked - not a bad little PVR card.
- Cons: Quality Control from VisionTek not fantastik. Installed and had terrible RF interference (wavy bands 1inch apart horizontally). Did Google search and settled on RFI/EMI as culprit. Then tracking down a pain. Bottom line - it was a shielding pin thru board that wasn't soldered at all. Gold shield actually wiggled. I soldered it and picture is great! BeyondTV blows - even with SATA and 64bit 3Ghz rig. Use ATI MM 9.13+ instead.
- Other Thoughts: BeyondTV stuttered on my HTPC, but I figured it was because it was a slower machine and is an FTP server and media server hogging access rates. Not so - even on faster computer with an ATI X1650pro, it still is wonky. ATI MMC runs smooth - afterall it is their chipset. Probably should have gone for cheaper version without remote, as I won't use that.

This television receiver has only an analog broadcast tuner and will require a converter box after February 17, 2009, to receive over-the-air broadcasts with an antenna because of the Nation's transition to digital broadcasting. Analog-only TVs should continue to work as before with cable and satellite TV services, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players, and similar products.
