great card
- Pros: this card runs really fast, runs stable and plays most of my games pretty well but not on highest settings.
- Cons: gets, hot, nowadays you require, MUCH more memory, so that is really the only area its lacking. is getting old
- Other Thoughts: this card has really lasted a long time, and i have had absolutely no issues with it
Good mid-range card
- Pros: Great performance for the price. Played Quake 4 all the way through on this card. The game ran a bit choppy at times, but otherwise ran great most of the time.
- Cons: Card runs REALLY hot. Card is at 65c when the PC is idle, and usually 70c+ when gaming.
This card has caused my PC to lock up on a few occasions. I think the monitor is the problem, but I cannot get DVI to work.
- Other Thoughts: If this card is in your price range, I highly recommend it. You may want to check out a few other 6600GTs before purchasing this one though.
Add me to the list of happy 6600GT owners
- Pros: Great HTPC upgrade from my 6200. I watch recorded content, and although the 6200 worked okay it wasn't great. I also play a little CS:S on my HD and it is now unreal. I used to be limited to no more than 8 players in DE_Aztec, the FPS killer, and I can now run 16 at high with incredible resolutions and have FPS from 30 and up. Half Life is easily in the 70's with high settings.
- Cons: Haven't checked my card temps and don't care to. It runs with no lockups yet, but it did raise my temps across the board by about 5C (30C-35C)including the HD, indicating the case if not getting the hot air out.
- Other Thoughts: I only noticed a small increase in noise when up close. During a movie I can't hear a single fan running.
I have this is an Aspire Q-Pack with an MSI board. All slots are full and it's a tight fit but not that difficult.
It plays well with the following: Sempron 3100 2x512's Corsair 3200 Seagate 300g NEC DVD-RW Pioneer DVD Rom Hauppauge PVR250 Chinatech AV710 Zonet PCI\Firewire-USB card Antec TPower 430 WinXP Pro No hiccups.
