Great quality, design could be better
- Pros: No fan, PCI, 128 MB
- Cons: No DVI output, Drivers slow down boot time
- Other Thoughts: Since specialized video card interfaces come and go, I could no longer find the AGP card I needed for 128 MB-requiring games. PCI interface makes it simple. There is no risk of damaging the motherboard trying an AGP card that may not be compatible with it. Spinning fans eventually go out and have to be disconnected, so I picked a card without a fan. The drivers installed all sorts of stuff that slowed down PC boot time to the point that I no longer like the card. For a card that was meant to be very generic (using a PCI interface) it has a second VGA output, instead of a DVI output. If I upgrade to an LCD monitor, this card will not work with the newer DVI interface.
It's a Dual one!!!
- Pros: This card is Great...., so easy to install if ur upgrading from an old PCI GeForce, The dual monitor is just awesome
- Cons: Mine came without a fan, it was just a heatsink, i was especting to get the fan....
- Other Thoughts: really recommend it, as it is the last PCI 32BIT Video Card made by nVidia....so take advantage if ur computer only has PCI slots....
Pretty, but Slow
- Pros: Good image quality
Um, it's blue?
- Cons: Slow
I bought this card because the AGP slot in my old Thunder K7 died. My wife used it to play World of Warcraft while I'm on the newer workstation. I expected this card to be much slower than the Radeon 9500 Pro that it was replacing (It was). Unfortunately, I didn't realize how much slower it would be. The 9500 would get around 18-30 FPS (In WoW, at 1024). The 5500 PCI could only muster enough to hit 7-15 FPS at the lowest possible settings (at 640) on the fastest driver settings. For laughs, I put the old 9500 into a Pentium II 400mhz machine with 512mb of PC100, heh... (The Thunder K7 has 2gb of PC2100) The result: 10-19 FPS. Weird, no?
It was just a simple test, but it's amusing to see how much of an equalizer a decent video card is for a 10 year old computer facing a 5 year old.
- Other Thoughts: Conclusion: As other reviewers have said, the card doesn't draw frames very fast (But they do come out looking pretty). Other than that, this card seems well built and feature-filled (for the price, of course). The lack of a DVI port may be a problem for a few people. (Although, I can't imagine anyone buying a DVI panel only to use it with a PCI video card. I could be wrong) The packaging was good. The manual was decent. I even called their tech support to see if they had any suggestions; They didn't tell me anything new, but I did get through to them pretty quickly.
Epilogue: I ended up returning this card and buying a Sempron+ Abit KV-85. (RMA Went smoothly - thanks Newegg :-)
PS - My wife DID use the P-II with the 9500 for a few days, and (surprisingly) few complaints about the speed. LOL
