1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: none

Cons: Documentation in the box contradicts itself, non-existent documentation elsewhere as manufacturer not identified anywhere, driver difficulties, etc.

Other Thoughts: Non-functional piece of junk. Possible that I just got the one bad one - but the fact that the manufacturer chose to remain anonymous, suggests otherwise. Should have sent back as soon as I saw it wasn't as pictured...

1 out of 5 eggswith Windows 7

Pros: Nice desgin.

Cons: not support on Windows 7 while has brand new Intel System Board with six SATA control on board. tried to use PCI IDE controller card was on. Windows 7 OS does not see any IDE at all even though I use Iomega Zip drive and/or any IDE hard drive. also tried to update driver for PCI IDE Controller card but it is not working... waste your time to search the better IDE controller card than this brand type.

Other Thoughts: Not worth it to have PCI IDE Controller card with Windows 7. but it will work with Windows XP SP3 OS as well as they see any IDE hard drive and Iomega Zip drive. better buy Iomega Zip drive with USB connection for all OS.

2 out of 5 eggsmeh

Pros: Partially works

Cons: Outdated drivers, hard to figure out which one is supposed to be installed, there's about 15 of them. I installed 4 IDE drives with this, and Windows didn't pick up the RAID, nor the drives, but the device itself. It works with 2 drives installed, partially.

Other Thoughts: Overall disappointed by the uselessness of this card, I may be fiddling around with it to get it to work when I get a chance.

Instructions tell you only how to install the card.

3 out of 5 eggsProblematic with optical drives

Pros: Based on the excellent Silicon Image sil0680 chipset.
Flashable BIOS.
Two IDE ports.

Cons: May not allow optical drives to used as boot devices.

Other Thoughts: I just built a new PC, but I wanted to keep using a venerable old Plextor PX-760A. My new motherboard does not have an old PATA controller. I had an old Syba PCI controller card lying around (based on the VIA VT6421 chipset) so I tried that first. The drive could boot from media and read commercially pressed discs, but wouldn't recognize blank media. After doing some research, I learned that boards based on the SIL0680 chip have a good reputation for working with optical drives, so I bought this Koutech PIR133. This card allows the 760A to work 100% upon loading Windows 7, however I could not get the drive to function as a boot device. Beware if you are buying it for this purpose. It might work for you, it might not.

Cons: Software cd should come with better instructions. Took me a while to install the right drivers.

3 out of 5 eggsDid as stated, somewhat

Pros: It did recognize the hard drives I attached and was able to run those drives in RAID.

Cons: I was unable to install windows xp onto the hard drives without hooking up a floppy drive (no sata fdd or ide ports on motherboard). Therefore, it couldn't serve its intended purpose for me.

Other Thoughts: I was attempting to save someone the cost of a new hard drive (post floods) by letting them run their old ide drives in raid with this card.

3 out of 5 eggsworks

Pros: works fine as ide controller non raid mode. recognized all my ide devices.

Cons: I could not get optimal performance out of raid 0 with available firmware updates and drivers, tried all of them. Beware of firmware updates can be tricky for this card, some firmware have Raid rom option, some firmware was for Ide mode only. Raid does work but I benchmarked a Raid 0 with 64k cluster with HDTach and was only getting 20mb's per sec read/write (half the speed of one drive). I finally gave up on Raid and just flashed rom to Ahci/IDE mode only and drive speeds were normal. So, if you plan to raid with these, stay clear of that, terrible performance.

Other Thoughts: worth the money.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great, just download the drives online.

Pros: Works with my old IDE drives.

Cons: The metal grill that attaches the back of the case isn't connected correctly to the PCI card. I resolved it by removing one of the screws on the card. Now it fits perfectly.

The driver CD is pretty useless, unless you use windows 2000 or XP. Vista, 7, or any windows OS that's 64bit won't have drivers on the CD, you'll have to go to Koutech.com for the latest drivers.

Other Thoughts: I'm using Windows Home Server 2011. Since WHS 2011 is a 64bit OS you need to go to Koutech.com to download the latest drivers for this device.

4 out of 5 eggsNo SATA Drives

Pros: Once configured, works great on an all SATA motherboard.

Cons: Could only get it working with Win 7; after support sent updated drivers.

Other Thoughts: Great support from Koutech.
