Pros: Works fine with thumb drives on my older 1GHz Sony Vaio laptop running XP. No driver installation needed. Transfers seem to occur at full USB 2.0 speed.
Cons: Needs auxiliary 5V power supply for anything other than a thumb drive (e.g., cell phone, USB HD, camera). Without the external power, the laptop shuts down as soon as the external device is plugged in. With the 5V power supply attached, everything works.
Other Thoughts: Should come with the 5V adapter. Fortunately, one was available from Newegg (12-186-003) at the time I purchased the card. A minor peculiarity: the brand specified in the item description is SYBA, but the actual item brand is "Best Connectivity" (no SYBA mentioned anywhere on the box or documentation). I just re-checked the image gallery for the item and the latter brand is displayed.

Works...except with external HDDs

Pros: The card works and saves my old Gateway MT laptop from the trash can. Works as advertised for the most part.
Cons: It will recognize anything except portable usb hard drives for me.
Other Thoughts: Only 4 eggs for no usb external hard drive support. Newegg's service was excellent with only 3 days from order to delivery. I wish to do business again.

Pros: Worked out of the box with Jaunty:
$ lsb_release -r Release: 9.04
No reboot, no drivers to install. Just plug in and run. Plugged in USB printer, which works fine.
Cons: None yet.
Other Thoughts: Have not tested throughput, have not owned long enought to vouch for reliability.
