definitely inferior packaging
- Pros: It seems like the connectors, antenna, et al, are all very nice. They supplied more adapters than what you need at a minimum, that's for sure.
- Cons: The driver disk that I recieved is unreadable. I can see there's 305MB allocated, but no drive will detect any files. I can't install the software, and they don't have it available for download from their site. I find that very, very poor.
- Other Thoughts: I am unable to write a review of its functionality.
Works Well
- Pros: This product works well and has a large feature set. Time shifting and recording are great uses of this product. The remote is easier to use for casual TV surfing than the small on screen control panel which has a lot of controls packed into it. The on screen panel is small even on a 22" LCD screen.
- Cons: The F-connector is not rugged but will do it's job in most situations. The F-connector adapter design to allow it's use with the included mostly useless mini-whip antenna is the weak link. In most situations the mini-whip is useless, even my 50" Plasma TV will not receive OTA signals using the mini-whip antenna supplied with this product. The mini-whip works in very strong signal areas only. Using an outdoor antenna this usb tuner receives all the OTA stations a regular HDTV can. The paper manual is poor, read the pdf file on the CD, it's also easier install the program from the CD menu.
- Other Thoughts: I bought this unit for time shifting/recording as well as to use to receive HDTV in my RV using a PC. I found a good price by shopping around which made it a good value. This unit uses the computer heavily to process signals, I don't recommend multitasking with it. When the unit has trouble receiving a station it will display "Weak Singal" on the screen, a typo within the software. I have not used this product with cable/satellite services and have no experience with it in that regard.
Marginal device
- Pros: Compact, HDTV, since it is USB card you dont need to take PC apart. Small remote convenient and works. It performs well when paired with a powered HDTV antenna/signal. Convenient and portable.
- Cons: READ THE WARNINGS OF OTHERS. though this tuner works, it DOES have its major issues such as poor tuner strength so you really need a high powered HDTV antenna. The cable connection is quite flimsy and needs redesigning.
- Other Thoughts: Spend your money wisely, if you're not willing to put time into setting it up and troubleshooting from the start, look elsewhere for an HDTV tuner.
