Great Device

Pros: We bought one of these for sub hundred and one from National Instruments that was USB to 4/RS232 for three times as much. Well the one from NI has died, and they want to charge $200. So that NI one goes to the trash, and I go to NewEgg to buy another one of these.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: On the computer, the COM ports are randomly assigned. If you go into hardware manager, you can change the ports. Some programs require com ports <10, so I try to fill all spots starting with 1.

OK, but not on Linux

Pros: Works fine with Windows

Cons: Did not work for me on Ubuntu Linux (2.6.25). Card was recognized and with some work i was able to have all ports recognized, however all tty devices were hooked together. In other words, /dev/ttyS5 and /dev/ttyS6 both connected to the same port. Google search showed others with similar problems.

Other Thoughts: Poor docs, poor support, non functional driver on Linux. If you need a card for Windows it works fine.

Awesome Product

Pros: This is a great card to turn a PCIe slot into 4 RS-232 ports. Unfortunately most of the commercialy available PC's are short on PCI slots these days. We use Rimage Protege 2 duplicators in our Duplication lab. We attach 4 autoloaders to 1 PC. They need both firewire and RS-232 ports to communicate and this was always done with PCI cards. The PC's must have 4 PCI slots but most only come with 2. I now use the 2 PCI slots for the firewire cards and the PCIe slot for this sweet little card. It worked great. No driver issues, everything was on the install disc. No program to install, just find the driver and away you go. I am going to buy a bunch more of these cards right now.

Great Product!

Cons: None that I can find. Great Card.
