Prevents PC Shutdown - Disables WOL

Pros: PCI-E x1 - saves a PCI Slot

Cons: I purchased 13 of these cards from Newegg for a client. 12 were installed in ASUS A8N-VM motherboards. After installation, we found that we can no longer shutdown the PC's using START—SHUTDOWN--SHUTDOWN. And at the same time, we found that Wake-On-LAN (WOL) that had worked, no longer worked. The client removed one card today and SHUTDOWN and WOL work again ON THAT PC ONLY.

At SHUTDOWN the PC immediately reboots when this Startech Serial Card is installed, The only way to turn these PC's off is to depress the POWER ON/OFF Button for 4-5 seconds.

This problem does not occur with the on-board integrated ASUS Serial Port.

These computers (were) administered remotely. Now I can neither turn them ON or OFF. Why would a SERIAL CARD cause this? Why SHOULD a Serial Card cause this?

We are out $700, have totally unusable Serial Cards, and no recourse to be made whole. I’m curious if Startech ACTUALLY TESTED the PEX2S552 in a PCI-E x1 Slot in a real-live motherboard?

Other Thoughts: Will StarTech be willing to exchange these for one of their Dual-Port Serial Cards that is NOT BASED ON THE MOSCHIP CHIP???

Pros: I've only tested the serial ports, but they work on Linux (RHEL5 clone) using the StarTech driver. The driver installed without incident.

Cons: Needs that StarTech driver, which is one more thing to remember when upgrading the kernel.
