works great in Linux fileserver

Pros: I've been using it for about 1-2 months with no problems in my Fedora Core 4 Fileserver. I have two SATA 250 GB WD raid edition drives on it and one PATA 250 GB WD drive on the IDE interface of it. I LVMed those three drives for about 700 GB total usuable space. I've always heard that promise made good PCI IDE cards and the like and that's why I got this, it seems to be a great card.

Cons: The only problem I had was with the default 2.6.17-1.2142_FC4 kernel on my FC4 setup it kernel panicked. I switched down to the next kernel, 2.6.16-1.2111_FC4 and it works with no problems. Not really a problem with the card though, just something I had to overcome.

Other Thoughts: If you're using it in linux you need support for sata_promise libata, scsi_mod and sd_mod. At least that's what lsmod tells me.

Pros: Added to a Tyan S2460 hooked up 2 sata drives and 2 ide drives No Problems Noted

Cons: None it even came with a paper Manual !!

Pros: - Works great with linux - 2.6 kernel (Suse 9.1)
- Additional PATA port useful
- Decent performance

Cons: Need to recompile kernel with every update - not really a Promise fault since the drivers are not integrated into the standard kernel source. Of course if you never update the installation, then you're okay.

Other Thoughts: Had it for almost 6 months now, using it with Linux 2.6 (suse 9.1) in a LVM configuration (striped). no issues other than a kernel recompile after patching the driver sources with every security update.
