5 out of 5 eggsUpdate - still going strong

Pros: Bought this in the beginning of 2007 for a workstation board that had already eaten 1 power supply after 3 months. - This one's still going strong - voltages are never under spec. (The previous one could'nt get up to 3.3, - it was always under)
No complaints at all. - Ive got 2 of these (1 workstation, 1 server) for almost 2 years with no problems. Can't ask for any more than that. - Forgot all about them until I saw that the egg has them back in stock.....

Cons: Wish I'd bought it at THIS price.

Other Thoughts: bought the 660 watt - the 550 would've probably been just as good. (lower cost)

Pros: Solid construction, heavy which is usually a sign of a good psu. Newegg helped immensely with the first RMA.

Cons: Purchased holiday season 2005 as part of a whole new pc, and you can imagine what this power supply cost then. It worked good for about two months, then my pc just turned off in the middle of using it and I smelled burnt electronics. Turns out one of the PCI-E rails failed, and took one of my video cards with it. Okay fine. RMA'd it, got another one and it was fine for about a year and half until my pc would randomly start to turn off after varying amounts of time ranging from an hour to ten minutes. Put a temporary psu in while this one is rma'ing and let me tell you, enermax's three year warranty at the time I bought this is nice, but actually rma'ing it through them is NOT.

Other Thoughts: Buy a thermaltake instead.

3 out of 5 eggsMisrepresented - not a multiple +12V PSU

Pros: It has worked with out issue for my TYAN S2895UA2NRF (K8WE) for a year. At present the system has 8 drives and a 8800GTX. Plenty of power. No power supply issues as far as functionality. It is not noticably noisy and it does not get very warm. Contrary to what others have said, the build quality is more than adequate (if not high art). This is actually a single +12V rail which is a good thing (there is sound engineering reason for multiple +12V rails).

Cons: This is a single rail power supply. Mine is labeled as model EG851AX-VH(W) but is a year old and labeled slightly differenty than the version shown on the website. Mine is labeled as having four distinct +12V rails (rather that three) but in reality the rails are all connected to the same internal 12V supply. In fact, the four differnt rails are only colored coded and wired to be consistent with three +12V rails. The only physical difference in the supposedly distinct +12V rails is that there are jumper wires that connect the supposedly different rails to the single internal supply. Perhaps these jumpers are are included to allow a lawyer to claim that the jumpers differentiate the rails). It is all the more odious that the supposedly different +12V rails are designated with different current ratings. To designate this unit as being a multiple +12V rail supply is not just disengenous but smacks of false advertising.

Other Thoughts: I can't honestly complain about the performance of the supply, it works fine. I have seen no system issue that is clearly power related. IMO, it is necessary to think carefully about buying Enermax products because of the misrepresentation noted in the cons: section. If one feature is not as stated, what feature can be trusted to be as stated? This is not Newegg's fault, Enermax is the one that published the disengenous specifications.

5 out of 5 eggsEnermax EG851AX-VH

Pros: I have 4 of these power supplies powering dual socket systems, none of them were DOA. One system has a Nvidia 7900GTX, 8 disk SCSI Raid Array on an Intel SRCU42X, plus a lot of extras.

Cons: This power supply will immediately shut down if the system doesn't pull at least a minimum current level. in other words this power supply will not start a single socket rig, heck it will not even start a dual AMD Socket F or dual Intel Socket 771 system without at least a Nvidia 7950 graphics card installed!

Other Thoughts: The new generation CPU's are using less power than before, which is a good thing.
I've had one system lose a 3.2GHz Xeon CPU and the motherboard and power supply survived, a couple of pins on the 8-pin connector got a little hot (yellowed the plastic on the connector).

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: It is on Tyan's supported PSU list for the Tempest 5000VS dual Xeon motherboard.

Cons: DOA... QC should be much higher on this type of product.

Other Thoughts: Previously tried the An tec 550W EPS that came with the Titan 550 chassis to power this server, it could only power it with one Intel 5080 CPU installed, not both. Thus the reason I had to buy this PSU.

1 out of 5 eggsBought 2 ...2 worthless

Pros: Price, Size (easy fit)

Cons: On my second one with 2 XEONs & 10 HDD (SCSI) - it is starting to surge constantly just like the last one (then it just dies) - this thing should be a lot better for the price

Other Thoughts: Basically it is good for a year or two - then it becomes disposable.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Lots of power, stable rails, good looks

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The best PSU I've owned. The only PSU I would take over it is the 1kw PCPC unit. Has ran my 6 tornado fans, 6 hard drives, 2 DVD burners, motherboard, tape drive, floppy, Asus Radeon 3200 X-fire board, dual core AMD cpu, and X1900XTX card flawlessly!! All voltages are EXTREMELY stable, unlike other 500W+ PSU's I've tried.

4 out of 5 eggsPSU

Pros: First one bought worked fine. Second one DOA.

Cons: Had to completely take aprt the PC to finally conclude that, indeed it was the PSU causing the problem.

Other Thoughts: Newegg replaced it promptly...go Newegg!
