Sending it back
- Pros: Worked great while it was working. More quiet than my previous power supplies. 3 year warranty.
- Cons: It's not working after 6 months. Actually needing to use the warranty.
- Other Thoughts: Sending it back to Antec.
- Pros: There are none.
- Cons: This power supply is a piece of junk. I have had 3, yes 3 of these power supplies fail in less than 2 years. All of them had the same problem.
- Other Thoughts: I highly commend Newegg with their return policy. They have handled my claims very promptly. I have no doubt that this replacement power supply will fail just as the others did
Bad Capacitors
- Pros: After buying the Sonata II case, I realized that many had problems with the included SP-450 power supply, so I sent an email to support at Antec, and received the following reply.
Mr.. Young Please understand we did get some bad capacitors from out supplier and they were installed in the Smart Power Series. And with a capacitor they take time to go bad so the power supplies tested good when tested at production. We apologize to our customers that purchased these power supplies as we were unaware of this situation. But please be assured that the problem has been taken care of with good capacitors. If at anytime your Smart Power supply gives you trouble there is a 3 yr warranty from the time of purchase that Antec will gladly stand behind. Please keep the invoice as it is needed for any warranty work.
John Bowen Antec Customer Support Supervisor
- Cons: None as yet!
- Other Thoughts: Capacitors are by far the electronic component with the highest failure rate. Being that the power supply has a 3 year warranty, it might be worth sending it in for warranty work. I hope mine has the good capacitors!
