nice for the price
- Pros: Very nice, totally worth the price! I didn't even bother install any drivers, Plug'n'Play in both Win Vista and Linux. I didn't even install the drivers from the CD, that comes with it.
No need of additional tools, screwdriver included.
- Cons: When changing the drive in this enclosure, the front panel would come off without the electronics, but that doesn't affect the functionality anyhow. You just have to be careful. The screws are very tiny and soft, when tightening them I almost stripped the thread.
- Other Thoughts: The blue LED on the case is very bright. In the evenings, I can see it across the whole room. Overall very good purchase.
Flakey
- Pros: In order for it to "mostly" work, I need to plug in the additional USB power connector, disable allowing the comp to turn off power to the device via the USB hub it is plugged into, and make sure write caching (optimizing for performance) is off.
- Cons: Even with the above tweaks, it still sometimes disappears from the system or gives me the message about the device can perform better under USB 2.0 as opposed to 1.1, even though it originally started working just fine under USB 2.0 on a 2.0 compliant system.
I can only assume that, even with the additional USB power connector, it is just not getting the power it needs.
- Other Thoughts: If each port is allocated 500mA and it only ever reports using no more than 96mA, maybe the issue is with the enclosure itself. I don't know, but at 8 bucks, it is not worth RMA'ing.
exactly what I needed
- Pros: Simple to connect, Computer installed drivers no problem, works great.
- Cons: screws to assemble enclosure would not go all the way in.
