5 out of 5 eggsGreat for home security!

Pros: If you are concerned about home security, then this is something that you should check into. Granted, it won't stop someone who is tenacious about getting info off of your hard drives, but it will deter the average criminal looking to make a quick buck. Pretty solid construction and easy to read instructions.

Cons: None that I can think of other than it would be troublesome to lose the keys for it, but that would defeat the purpose of having it, would it not?

Other Thoughts: I'm extremely satisfied with this product. As a matter of fact, I might order two more for the RAID array I'm setting up on my home computer.

2 out of 5 eggsAah the smell of burning chips...

Pros: Looked nice in case, thats about it

Cons: Handle seems very flimsy and breakable. Well I had this working outside of the case for a few seconds to test it out. Installed in case, powered up computer and heard a crackling noise and saw the LED display go out. Smelled burning and turned off computer. Not quite sure what happened but there were some fried chips on my hard drive. Got brave and tried out the rack again but LED was just a green color with no display. Not sure what caused the problem, but the hard drive was an old 20GB I've had around for a long time. I am sure glad that wasn't my Raptor that got fried!

Other Thoughts: I wanted and enclosure so I could swap out IDE drives from the front of my case instead of taking off the side panel. I think I will have the slight inconvenience of the panel rather than risking frying more hard drives.

5 out of 5 eggsVantec makes another good product

Pros: So far the Rack is of OK construction, the LCD has a bright screen with a sleek look in the front. Also, having jumpers for Master/Slave Operation is Fantastic! Now I can easily install the drive into another system with the same hot swap bay! Furthermore, "IDE" was never meant to be HOT SWAPABLE in the first place! Also, compared to some of my old HDD Hot swap bays these new ones are a lot better! My last bays the low profile fan seized which caused my HDD to fail. AT LEAST WITH THIS BAY COOLER IT WILL WARN ME!

I currently have 2 of these bays and I am looking to add about 12 more to my system! I will also be looking at the SATA version of these bays as well.

The back fan is OK for CFM output!

Cons: the outside bay could be stronger. Master/Slave/CS switches could be larger. Plastic locking handle could be made of metal!

Furthermore,
A RPM Readout of the Fan would be nice.

Other Thoughts: I think it would be really neat if it was possible to display the data transfer in MBPs on the IDE channel.

Or MBPs on the SATA interface.

Yet I have a feeling these concepts are a little before their time but I think it would be cool to see in such a great product!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product for the price

Pros: These are great racks, for the price. I learned a long time ago never have your data on your operating System/ Programs drive. You always store your data on a separate drive in case something goes wrong. Once a week you send My Documents Files to the data drive for backup. The rack has a switch so that you can turn the drive off when not in use. I have six of these units and I have never had a failure, in all the years I have been computing. You do have to power down to turn the data drive on and off, to prevent damage. Turning a drive off when not in use, saves years on the drives. I use these for my OS drives also. If I get a corrupted OS Program drive, I always have a ghost drive clean drive and I swap them and format the corrupted drive. You spend too many hours cleaning up a corrupted drive that has a virus. This is the way to go! Increased investment but saves hours in the long haul.

Cons: NoT a Thing!

2 out of 5 eggsDifficult to open

Pros: Works.

Cons: I was looking for something without a lock - this one has a lock, but it's not visible from the picture (it sits behind the gray tab) - so now it's a double whammy because I can't keep the key in the lock because the tab covers it.

The main problem, though, is that it was really difficult to open. The mechanism that opens is really sticky - I took the whole thing apart and finally just had to really torque on it to get it to open the first time. I now see how it's supposed to unlatch itself, but the mechanism is very poor, and will always require a good pull to get it open.

4 out of 5 eggsTight fit, but good product

Pros: I bought this product because I needed to add a hard drive but didn't have any more space for another drive. Since I had an empty 5.25" bay, problem solved.

Cons: You need to use the key to turn it on. I have no reason to lock the drive in, but unless you turn the key to 'lock' the drive it doesn't activate. At first I thought there was a problem with the unit.

Other Thoughts: Very tight fit for my Western Digital drive, but with proper care you can get it in the case without damaging anything inside. Just be careful not to force it in and damage any of the wires connecting to the front LCD panel. I acutally broke one and had to repair it.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice

Pros: Very sturdy construction. Very straight forward and simple installation. I really love the lockout feature. A very simple way to keep nosy spouses, children, friends, family etc etc from booting your computer. Looks very sharp in my computer case. Planning to buy several of the SATA versions.

Cons: It is a tad long. This will be a pain in the rear for smaller cases or oddly laid out cases.

Other Thoughts: Worth every penny. I recommend it highly.

4 out of 5 eggsTHESE ARE GREAT !!!

Pros: These drive ENCLOSURES are great for helping for keeping your drives cool and solving the new problem of the newer towers having all 5 1/2" bays. I have two of these that I have replaced my old ANTEC twap drives with and the fans are much quieter! I also have 4 of the SATA versions of these as well and LOVE them! I have researched these for quite sometime and they havn't dissappointed yet! Look NO further.

Cons: Just that I wish they would tell the fan SPEED! rather than just a little picture of a fan on the display. Oh, and I wish they would have said that the IDE version was backlit in GREEN, instead of the BLUE, like on the SATA versions!

Other Thoughts: These are a GREAT idea for anyone looking for a solution for keeping your HDD cool. And to the people who are complaining that they aren't a "HOTSWAP"... an IDE HDD is NOT hot swappable. SATAs ARE hot swappable. If you buy these for IDE drives (which they are made for, YOU MUST SHUT YOUR SYSTEM DOWN BEFORE REMOVING! Its ONLY SATA drives that you can pull out when your system is running.

4 out of 5 eggsLook nice - a bit long

Pros: Attractive styling. looks great in my black and silver tower case. Plastic and aluminum construction seems sturdy enough.

Cons: A bit long. I had to mount mine only in the two upper-most drive bays - otherwise, the back of the enclosure hit the motherboard.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these primarily because I needed a way to mount two HD drives in the tooless 5 inch bays of my case. the ability to remove them easily was a minor plus.
