1 out of 5 eggsUSB controller failed after 6 months

Pros: Quiet fan, good air flow, cool operation while it worked.

Cons: 1) Power supply connector on back of enclosure is loose and makes you think it's likely to fall out at any time. 2) I installed a new 500GB disk, copied my data onto it, and put it into a bank vault for six months. Retrieved it today, and when I plug it into my Windows 2000 computer, the computer doesn't recognize the device and asks me for a driver. I tried a different Windows XP computer, same thing. External drives like this aren't supposed to require a driver -- and it didn't when it was new -- so I think the USB controller on this enclosure is broken in some weird way.

Other Thoughts: Does anybody make a quality external SATA enclosure? I am so tired of dealing with shoddy (made in China) merchandise that's either DOA or breaks after a few months.

4 out of 5 eggsworks but not with my front esata ports

Pros: Cheap price works great minus one issue I have with it.

Cons: Will not work with my computers with front esata ports built in to the case. Funny I can pug directly to the esata port back side of my mother boards (both Abit P35 pro) it works great but plug into my front ports on my case it doesn't work tried both IDE and AHCI mode in bios with no luck....anyone has this issue also?

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: When it worked, it did the job. Fast transfer via the USB and the eSATA ports

Cons: The initial unit failed via the USB port but the eSATA port worked just fine. I sent it back to Thermaltake and they quickly sent me a new unit. I used it and it worked great. I am using it to back up several computers. I went to use it a year later and the USB port connection is bad again. At least the eSATA port still works. It is not worth the cost of shipping to try to send it back to Thermaltake for repair.

Other Thoughts: NEWEGG shipping ROCKS. They got it to me quickly.

5 out of 5 eggsA very good external case

Pros: The case is very straightforward. It is of aluminum and very light-weight. The top portion comes off with 4 mini-screws and there are also some retaining plastic pins that you have to mount the drive to. The install was relatively painless and detailed instructions are included.

I was glad it came with the necessary Esata cables and bulkhead for the external SATA. Themaltake has included everything but the drive. I chose the Seagate 750 GB ST3750640AS drive, which I will review later, but suffice to say that the drive is working very well and very cool to the touch.

Speed on the drive would vary from system to system and OS to OS. I am using Vista 64 Bit Ultimate and I get very VERY quick transfers as long as it is SATA to SATA. If you switch the USB 2.0, the slowdown is noticeable, but expected. I bought the drive to be used with E-SATA, but it is nice to have USB 2.0 if I want to use it on another computer.

Cons: I agree that the power cable has minor issues. It will fall out if it is bumped, which would be bad if your BIOS doesn't support hot-swap SATA. This is a minor issue with me, but worth noting.

Other Thoughts: I will be testing the drive with Fedora 64 bit soon. I am very impressed so far with the price and performance.

5 out of 5 eggsEase of use.

Pros: Simple plug and play functionality. Dropped a SATA drive in it and through both eSATA and USB2.0 connections the HD was instantly detected, configured, and ready to go.

Cons: The screws for sealing the case are of very soft metal and prone to stripping under normal use. Those same screws also screw into plastic and the assembly will fail over time if this unit is opened and closed often. If rarely opened this unit should last reasonably long.

Other Thoughts: Would be nice to buy a second power supply.
