The Kingwin SS-350S-BK provides maximum protection to your internal hard drive and lets you expand your system's storage capacity. With a sleek black finish, it's made of aluminum alloy, light in weight and easily portable, rigid and durable. It has a long-lasting ball bearing cooling fan offering efficient cooling in all conditions. It supports all 3.5" SATA hard drives and is compatible with both Windows and Macintosh based systems.

There is also a fan failure alarm system, with red LED indicator, that sets off if the temperature rises too high. It has a SATA to SATA interface offering significantly faster data transfers, and over-current protection keeps your HDD from excessive power surges. The SS-350S-BK is also stackable with other external enclosures, thereby easing placement pressures. Kingwin offers easy connection and great construction once again!

Good, but cheap!

Pros: Nice from factor. Once you tweek the case, work the connectors and put it all back together its quiet, has a good fan and is compact. Fan keep it nice and cool too.

Cons: Thin case, need to bend the top and bottom cover plates inward(just a tad) to keep them pushing against the silver aluminum side pieces which have the little dimple that holds them in outward from the center of the case.

Other Thoughts: Got it in today after reading all the previous reviews. Loaded my Maxtor Diamond max drive, used the CD software the Maxtor came with and installed a drive.

Yes, this thing is cheap, but its a good kind of cheap in that it works. TIP!!! pull the input bay apart and plug the cables off an on about 20 times- I bi-passed the unit with a SATA cable direct and it still had problem of NOT being recongnized in the OS. But after working the connectors a few times thay all started working-- oxidation at the connector was my problem and I don't think the SATA jumper cable is bad, just oxidized. The cables all worked after this and the unit did also.

Hole too small for some plugs

Pros: Inexpensive. Easy to disassemble.

Cons: Hole for the SATA plug is too small for larger, heavy duty plugs.

Other Thoughts: External power supply. Uses SATA1, not eSATA plug.

Pros: 1-cheap.
2-.appears to honor HD spindown request

Cons: 1-power plug problem..slightest movement causes power loss.

Hard to Recommend

Pros: Easy to mount drive and assemble case.

Cons: Power plug that goes into rear of case is loose and causes frequest power loses.
Does not recognize SATA connection to one of my PCs.
Hole in case rear for SATA cable too small - most SATA cables will not fit.
No intake air holes in case to direct air flow over drive to direct cooling where it is needed.

Pros: Its cheap.

Cons: Loose power connector, loses power when power cable is moved slightly. Have to keep it very still. Fixable if you find out what is loose.

Tiny fan is very noisy.

No Drive activity light.

Other Thoughts: I reccomend spending a tiny bit more on a better enclosure.
