5 out of 5 eggsTY Sliver's.. What the Pro's use

Pros: High quality; unsurpassed low BLER/C1/C2; consistent quality amongst batches; THE BEST!

Cons: The silver lacquer (top protective layer) is so shiny; in the sun it will blind you!

Other Thoughts: Taiyo Yuden Silver's are the discs that the pro's use. By that I mean they're used by almost all of the major CD Mastering facilities around the globe. Typically, they burn these discs with a (real) Plextor (Premium, 708, 712, 716, 755, or 760... The rest are re-branded NEC's, or they don't support PlexTools -- which is used to test for C1/C2 errors).

So flip through your CD case (you know...the one that's filled with all those CD's you bought back when we had to pay for them!) and realize that almost all of your favorite albums were TY silver's burned with Plextor and sent to the duplication facility (to be read in an Eclipse system, FYI...)

5 out of 5 eggsWorkhorse

Pros: I've used hundreds and hundreds of these and had maybe two failures? They're great in Casio thermal printers too.

Cons: The plastic spindles are cheesy and sometimes arrive broken. They don't drop well.

Other Thoughts: They cost a bit more than other options, but you'll never have to explain a disaster.

5 out of 5 eggsownage

Pros: Car stereo has no problem reading these CDs unlike all other popular brands. Maybe it's my stereo, it probably is but I'm only buying these from now on.

Cons: The reflective surface kind of sucks but, I think they offer ones that aren't.

5 out of 5 eggsTaiyo Yuden Are The Best

Pros: TY CD-Rs are the best going in the market today. I burn all my music at 4X using a Plextor drive and have never been disappointed with the result and NO coasters, not one. 4x may seem a tedious bore but if you want quality results it takes this small compromise to get it. Just because you CAN burn at 52x doesn't mean it's the better choice.

Cons: None. These aren't printable, as far as I know. Permanent marker does the job for me.

Other Thoughts: Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 eggsNot Silver Thermal Printable, but CD Lacquer tops

Pros: High write speed, excellent quality. Been using Taiyo Yudens for some time now, without problem. Their durability is well-reviewed elsewhere.

Cons: These are not actually the Silver Thermal Printable discs. These are the CD Lacquer discs that have the mirrored finish on top. Not a huge deal, but the others are easier to write on without smudging. And it would be nice for Newegg to change the description to reflect that.

Other Thoughts: If you have an NEC burner like mine (ND-3520AW), these discs will not write at the full 52x write speed. I've read up on this before and it seems to be an issue with the drive and not the media. So I'm sure they will write at 52x, but I've only been able to go as high as 32x with this burner. Meh.

2 out of 5 eggsNot so good

Pros: Good while it last...

Cons: doesn't last long. The paint on top of the cds tends to chip off easily. And no, the cds in question were NOT in the sun or any extreme temps.

Other Thoughts: It's too bad that these cds seemed to have gone south. They seemed to work well. I'm hoping for TY's sake that it was only a bad batch. I'll be switching back to "whites" as the paint seems to be more durable.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very reliable CDR. I've gone through several 100-packs of these with no coasters. The person who said they wouldn't overburn - it might be that certain drives won't do that. I've successfully overburned with these several times, most recently an audio music CD with 80:42 and it burned and plays fine.

Cons: None that I can think of.

5 out of 5 eggsTaiyo Yuden

Pros: I HAVE TRIED MANY BRANDS, FROM STORE BRAND TO VERBATIM, AND MEMOREX - I BOUGHT THESE BECAUSE OF THE REVIEWS AND RESEARCH I FOUND ON A POPULAR WEBSITE

TAIYO YUDEN (JAPAN) SEEM TO BE WORTHY OF THEIR STELLAR RATINGS

Cons: HAD 2 BAD BURNS WHERE THE BOOT IMAGE WAS NOT PICKED-UP. DONT KNOW IF MEDIA WAS THE CAUSE

Other Thoughts: I HAVE ORDERED MY 2nd 100-PK AND AM GOING WITH THE WHITE-INKJET VERSION THIS TIME - BUT SO FAR IM PLEASED WITH THIS BRAND

4 out of 5 eggsCareful

Pros: Pretty. Very good quality.

Cons: These absolutely will not overburn. Try to write an extra 20 bytes and you have a coaster.
