good stuff
- Pros: Heavy duty, good workmanship. Good fan ventilation w/ on-off switch. Main power button on front of unit instead of rear which I prefer. Tiny power unit, no bricks.
- Cons: Nothing so far
- Other Thoughts: The lower review about the fan only being effective on the chipset and not the HD is inaccurate. The fan happens to be located on the chipset but there is a small corridor next to the fan with a few millimeters of space that enables the fan to pull air directly from underneath the bottom side of the HD and the HD controller. The fan looks like a low profile, smashed style mini laptop-CPU fan and it is quiet enough to barely notice. You can feel air being pulled into the front of the unit through tiny vents, and there is a considerable volume of warm air exiting the rear. The fan is clearly cooling the HD in addition to the chipset.
cool
- Pros: USB2 and SATA interfaces
Very easy to setup Nice design Small power adapter Includes SATA and USB cables Effective fan
- Cons: a bit too long
don't like the on/off button on front panel
- Other Thoughts: Very pleased with this enclosure.
Got a 20mb/s speed over USB2. Then connected to my mobo through supplied SATA cable - up to 70mb/s. Runs cool with fan on, even after an hour of copying data. Power adapter is very small, not like bricks that come with similar products. If I need another enclosure, I'll probably buy this one again.
Good value, but needs upgrade
- Pros: Fair to good overall design, easy assembly.
- Cons: Fan is apparently for the chipset only, does not cool the drive. The included SATA cable is only eSATA on one end.
- Other Thoughts: Let's dwell on the cons: (1)The fan is mounted on the circuit board and it is NOT designed to cool the drive, so don't be misled here. The case does absorb and dissipate heat but I have no idea how warm the drive runs because I can't monitor the temps until I have it hooked up as an SATA drive, which I can't do because...
(2)The included cable is SATA on one end and eSATA on the other, which is a little goofy. This means you have to use an INTERNAL connection for an external drive, or use an add-on SATA bracket; neither one is good solution. The eSATA spec is more robust and should not be compromised in this way. Rosewill should do what some other manufacturers do, namely provide an eSATA bracket that turns a SATA mobo connection into the external variety. I will have to order a bracket and cable from someone else. They should have been included with the drive.
