4 out of 5 eggsNicely Priced

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2DB 500W ATX12V Power Supply

Pros: I have owned this since July 2012. Great Price, works great and braided wires are a nice touch, plus it has blue lights so...yeah

Cons: cables too short and its no modular(which i knew when i bought it) ATX case it is installed on and the cables are too stiff and short.

Other Thoughts: I am thinking of upgrading to an 850 psu, but this was a great PSU for the money and is continue to be working.

1 out of 5 eggsMy Review (of the Rosewill Stallion RD500-2DB)

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2DB 500W ATX12V Power Supply

Pros: + Nicely braided wires
+ LED lit
+ Price

Cons: - It died on me within three days of usage (12V stopped transferring)
- Tiny fans (~80mm) get noisy

Other Thoughts: While I got it at a decent price, it failed on me so I have to pay shipping costs to have Newegg test it and then they will eventually either send a second or refund or say no go.

I had to go out and pay top dollar for a similar PSU in order to keep "connected" with the world.

2 out of 5 eggsthis power supply exploded on me

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2DB 500W ATX12V Power Supply

Pros: +cool and quiet
+reasonably priced
+LEDs looks nice at night

Cons: -it developed a coil whine noise after 5 years of use
-it exploded on me (see other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: I have had this power supply in my system since 2009 and it has worked great ever since until just a few weeks ago, the power supply started to make an annoying coil whine noise when I turn on my PC. Then just a few days ago while playing Dota 2, the power supply began to spark and it immediately shut off my PC, afterwards there was smoke coming from the power supply followed by a bad odor coming from the power supply unit. It served me well for 5 years and it truly went out with a bang.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy it Until they get Quality Control

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2DB 500W ATX12V Power Supply

Pros: Nice fans, quiet, compact, LED's are really cool

Cons: Failed just after a single month. PSU no longer provides enough power to run the computer graphics, although it did boot momentarily

Other Thoughts: This has to be a quality control issue, because the PSU never fully failed but everytime I start the computer the screen now flashes green pixels on and off everywhere, originally I was convinced my GPU had failed, so I pulled it out and used intergrated graphics to the same effect, then I shut down the computer and tried to restart but the PSU lights and fans would turn on for a second and then fail.... continuously. The computer isn't booting anymore.

PC specs:
ZOTAC GTX 970
8 gig single stick Hyperfury X RAM
i5-4960k
H60 watercooler
Z97I Mobo (Mini ITX)
System has 2x120mm fans

Estimated Wattage: 384 watts
Supposed available wattage: 450

Result: Disappointed with Rosewill, as this was my first product I bought from them

4 out of 5 eggsDelivers the power my PC needs, however there are some issues

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2DB 500W ATX12V Power Supply

Pros: +Delivers the right amount of power my current PC needs
+Reasonably priced
+Blue LEDs look nice

Cons: -Cables are bit too short
-Weird coil noise coming from the PSU after 5 years of use (see other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: I have had this PSU since 2009 and it hasn't given me a problem since then until recently a few months ago where the PSU makes a loud pitch whine noise for a few minutes after turning on the PC or waking it up from Sleep mode. It doesn't effect performance or system stability, but the noise is very annoying. Thankfully, it doesn't last long and goes away after a few minutes of using the PC until I boot up my PC from shut down/sleep mode.

5 out of 5 eggsJust what I wanted

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2DB 500W ATX12V Power Supply

Pros: I knew this PS would work because I have purchased nearly a dozen of them - covering 10 years. Have only had 2 fail and they were nearly 10 years old.
Chose NewEgg Supersaver shipping and it still only took 2 days to get here!! WOW!

Cons: Product in the box was correct, but packing slip belonged to someone in a completely different state, and for a completely different product.

3 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2DB 500W ATX12V Power Supply

Pros: its nice led was cheap when i got it and no functioning problems

Cons: it only gave me about 350-400 watts, i suggest getting a 80+ so that you get at least 400+ watts from a 500watt psu

4 out of 5 eggsGreat PSO with only one flaw

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2DB 500W ATX12V Power Supply

Pros: First things first:
Price/quality ratio is amazing on this one. I've bought several Rosewill products in the past, and as their motto goes, they offer outstanding value for the dollar paid, and this PSU is no exception.
- Great build quality; doesn't look or feel cheap.
- Twin fans and built-in temp sensor help keep it cool.
- The bottom fan fits very well in a case with bottom-mounted PSU option, with an air filter underneath it, more and more common in newer cases; for me it is a Rosewill Challenger case.
- Quiet, reliable up to now and provides ample power for my needs.
- Quality wiring with mesh protection; for PSU wiring looks great in your case.

Cons: Now with all the Pros, what possible con might it have?
Well, as others have mentioned, indeed it is true:
The power cable for the motherboard's CPU power connector is MUCH too short. It pains me to say this, since it is still a great product and I love Rosewill products in general, but the cable for this connector is simply much too short for a bottom-mounted psu case, where it must often go all the way up on the motherboard to connect.

I managed to squeeze the cable just barely behind a space nestled in between my video card and motherboard. Just recently caved in and decided to buy an extension for the cable though, so it wouldn't be squeezed or stretched too much.

Keep in mind this is in a regular mid tower chassis, from Rosewill no less, the Challenger Case.

Other Thoughts: Had to knock off an egg for the short cable, but apart from that it's simply an amazing PSU, do not regret at all buying it.

Recommended for the great value and quality it represents.

PS: I noticed a Rosewill rep going through these reviews and answering the most negative ones, responding by saying the issues would be sent to the R & D teams. Please take note of the short CPU connector wire and forward the message. Keep up the good work though, great products!

5 out of 5 eggsGood value and performance for the price

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2DB 500W ATX12V Power Supply

Pros: I usually buy Antec P/S but took a chance on this one sonce it was at a great price and don't regret it. Extremely quiet and plenty of long connectors which is what I look for in a quality P/S.

Cons: None !

Other Thoughts: Would recommend it to anyone for a new build or replacement,
