An important tip from one of our users: don't just check total power output, find out what you need in the way of current on each power rail. If you need 20 A on your +12V rails and the supply only has 15A, it doesn't matter how many watts the supply puts out: don't buy it. Make certain that you have ENOUGH rails, too: sometimes, you need more than just two +12V rails for your setup.
Replacing an existing power supply is easier: just get a replacement that meets or exceeds the specifications of the old one. (You can usually find those printed on the side of the supply.)
That said, here's a power supply that is compatible with most ATX format motherboards, puts out 1000 watts of power (see specifications for exact distribution). Could this be your next power supply?

Powerfully Noisy!
- Pros: Great size...fits cases that only accept the standard size PSU's, like my Lian Li V1100. This PSU is the same dimensions as a typical 500w. Seems to handle everything I can throw at it in my CoolerMaster 830...7 120mm fans, E6600, 2 8800GTX's. should take on my LC when I go that route.
- Cons: Very Loud fan..sounds like one of those Volcano's at a lower speed. Not a good PSU for quiet LC systems.
No cabling system. Gotta tuck all those extra cables away somewhere where they block air flow.
Nice
- Pros: - Fits easily in my thermaltake armor case.
- Shiny - Plenty of connectors - Powers my 8800 gtx
- Cons: No major cons
- Other Thoughts: This is great for an 8800 gtx, probably two, as it is sli certified. I was suprised how small it is for 1000w. Great quality power supply

Trust those that say this PSU is loud!
- Pros: plenty of power and long cables. that's about it.
- Cons: wow this make me feel like I'm in an economic seat in a plane! so much louder than my OCZ 600W PSU. When people say that this PSU is loud, trust them. I didn't trust them and decided to get this PSU from eastbay and now I'm regretting a lot. I only paid $115 including free shipping for this PSU but I would honestly pay around $200 for a quiet PSU. This PSU alone outputs more noise than both of my 9800 GX2 graphic cards, zalman heatsink, and 8 x 120mm fans combined together!
- Other Thoughts: OCZ staff replied to previous reviews saying that this PSU was not made to be a "quiet" PSU. Again, trust what people say. This PSU will not be for you if you have ever used a normal PSU.
OCZ1000PXS
- Pros: I love my new OCZ1000PXS. My system is 9600 Phenom on an XFX750a motherboard with sli geforce 7900 gtx's,
seagate 2x320g sata2 h.d.'s Antec 1050B case, 4 gigs OCZ DDR2 1066, external soundblaster live 24bit, 2 arctic cooler gpu fans and 1 arctic cooler cpu cooler, 4x80mm 1x120mm fans. I was running with an underpowered Antec 550 trio which was a great p/s but not enough juice for my mean machine. To the guys complaining about noise, I dont get it! This OCZ 1000PXS P/S IS VERY QUIET! Just a little louder than my Antec, but I cant't hear a thing when i crank up UNREAL TOURNAMENT 3 w/ 50% volume on my Altec Lansing speakers! This OCZ p/s runs way cooler than my Antec , probably because I'm only running 65% load, compared to the Antec which was running about 120% load. Nice sleeving on the cable, very high quality connectors nice and thick, as well as the cable thickness. This is my 1st OCZ P/S. Excellent in quiality and performance! Awesome price $89 after rebate.
- Cons: NONE!
- Other Thoughts: GREAT JOB TO YOU GUYS AT OCZ. Fast shipping at newegg.
Great PSU
- Pros: TRUE 1000watt, plenty of Amps, great price from a well respected brand name.
- Cons: None come to mind.
- Other Thoughts: Alot of ppl complain about it being loud, well then i guess maybe it aint for you, but if your like me, and you wear headphones and turn your pc off at night, it doesnt even phase me, and to be honest....i dont find it terribly loud i dont expect it to provide 1000watts and be whisper quiet. I read alot of reviews before buying this PSU and they all gave it great praise.
