5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU

Pros: I purchased back when it was about $100 cheaper (and OEM) and put a Thermalright XP-90/Panaflo M1A on it and it stays about 40-43 Celcius Idle and 48C load. Not the greatest for 3D Studio and Video encoding, but holds it's own quite well in games. Paired with 1GB Corsair Value Select and an AGP 6800GT I run most games full settings @ 1024x768 resolution, and more intensive games such as Need for Speed: Most Wanted and TES IV: Oblivion same resolution with lower AA and no AF. Ran SuperPi and it did 1 Million calculations in 42 seconds.

Cons: Temperatures are fine, but would prefer a little lower. Cool n' Quiet doesn't seem to work, although that could be my ABIT NF8-V Pro motherboard. 1MB cache doesn't seem to make a huge difference, but people who know more about these things say they do so I guess I just don't notice it.

Other Thoughts: For this price, you could get an A64 X2, but if you want to hold on to your AGP video card and motherboard this is a good choice. If you do 3D Studio and Video editing as often as I do, I'd recommend a nice Intel processor-as they tend to perform a little better at those programs.

5 out of 5 eggsBest in Class

Pros: These chips came out in June of '04 and retailed for $xxx. It was number three in AMDs lineup and intended as a Best in Class 754 pin processor. The independants benchmarked it against Intels 3.2 Ghz Prescott which it pretty much creamed in most tests. I can't say it really compares to my old Pentium 4, seems unfair ; I don't overclock, use it for fairly heavy graphics; rasterizes vector art into Photoshop like nuthin' just rips right thru it.

Cons: None. DER CLAWHAMMER RULES!

Other Thoughts: W/ a good Thermaltake copper heasink fan combo and arctic silver, my system is uber stable and just cruises through it's duties. Baby Athlon kicks A.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Rediculously Fast
Runs Pretty cool

Cons: Doesnt overclock very high, I havnt pushed it too much recently, but i have kept it at a steady 2.54 with a pretty beastly fan.

Other Thoughts: AMD is so easy to deal with, I orginally bought a 3400 newcastle because of my budget, and I was sent with a faulty motherboard that fried my processor, when I RMA'd the processsor it magically came back as a 3700 Clawhammer. I didn't even complain to them. Now thats Service! 200 extra mgz and double the cache? I'll take it!

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice

Comments: This chip runs great. Upgraded from a lower lot athlon xp 2600+
To this beast. Can't beat it with a free motherboard. And keep your eyes peeled for a nforce4 sli chipset coming from epox in the near future. Definetly a nice upgrade path. maybe not for the processor, but for the video...

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT CPU

Comments: Just got this cpu, i upgraded from a Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.0 Ghz And this thing blows it out fo the water i could not beleive it. I had a very nice system before, then i got this, then i upgraded the motherbaord for it and coupled it with a nVidia 7800GT. Now this thing is amazing. I cant beleive my highs 3dmark scores and frame rates in al my games. amd im still not spending loads of cash, though quite a bit for the video card. I absolutley love this processor, idles 31, load 36~38.

4 out of 5 eggsLike It, but not perfect

Comments: Got the proc nice and fast thanks to the EGG and FedEx, like always, service in second to none. The proc on the other hand is great, alittle expensive but nice and fast. Though it isnt extreamly stable, it is fine...usually. i have 1.5gig of ram so thats not the issue, good ram no doubt (corsair 533 512mb) I do have a RAID0 setup which puts quite a load on it very often, boost VERY fast 42s from the push of the button, with EVERYTHING installed. Installing stuff, amazing speed, amzingly HOT too. Forget about OC its not stable, but its fast enough anyway. With my H2O cooling it idles at 30-35C and 32-38C under a load for 1 hour. Had to rearrange my room to get cool air from ouside or ide be looking at 45C idle temp. I just mis my OC fun... ;-(
