5 out of 5 eggsAMD64 DTR 3000+ ROCKS

Pros: This rocks massively! NEVER gets above 100* F with Arctic Cooling Freezer heatsink and cover on. Very fast and will totally make a great CPU for Vista (from my Beta Usage)

Cons: Won't go above 9x multiplyer but not a big deal. Make sure it will work with your board, has issues with some boards. I recommend GigaByte K8NS Pro 757

Other Thoughts: Totally worth the money. Mobile CPU's in Desktop Machines == teh l33t.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Perfect

Pros: 1MB cache, easy overclock. What you get with this is a perfect athlon64. Not a reject that doesn't work as well, and gets a big plate slaped ontop of it.

Cons: Not an easy install for a desktop. If you are anything less then a pro on building systems, don't buy this chip! One mistake and you have a cracked cpu.

Other Thoughts: Right now I have it running at 2ghz. I am going to try and hit 2.5
it should be able to do it.

5 out of 5 eggsnice

Pros: Cheap. 1 meg cache. No heat spreader, so be careful with it.

Cons: Multiplier is locked above 9x, free below 9x. Not like the mobile bartons of yore which were completly unlocked. Silly me for not doing more research, but this cpu is still the best value for the $. If you want to OC this you should get ddr 500 memory or better, since the only way to OC seems to be to raise the FSB.

Other Thoughts: Happy in an dfi lanparty ultra 250gb, after minor mod of the heatsink retention device to make sure the heatsink is touching the processor and not hung up on the little plastic nubs in the yellow socket.

5 out of 5 eggsMounting Bracket

Pros: The 1MB Cache makes it a great choice for gamers. Been playing WOW on it and it is really beautiful. Most people blame connectivity for IF lag, but your processor (and video card)really does have a lot to do with it. Lows temps too, no need to overclock this one.

Cons: You're probably better off with a socket 939. This socket is dated.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to write about another post I saw where the guy stated that the mounting bracket requires modification. This is true. Seems the chip sits just a little lower in the socket that the bracket was designed for preventing any contact between the heatsink and the chip. If you look at the bracket (the black plastic piece that holds the CPU) you will notice four little tabs that hold the heatsink about 1/32 of an inch from actually resting flat in the bracket. If you want to use this CPU you are going to have to shave these tabs down. It can be done with a razor blade. Just try and do it before you have it mounted on the board if possible. I wonder how many of these chips have been burnt up becuase of this design flaw. Easy enough work around, but it's still annoying.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: runs cooler than normal procs because it doesnt have the heat spreader, 1mb cache

Cons: requires modification of stock mouthing bracket and possibly a bios update. may not work with some boards at all.

Other Thoughts: works on a biostar geforce 6100M7 with a bios update. not the best chip if oyu want to oc but i got it to 2.1 on stock volt.

5 out of 5 eggsworks great!

Pros: inexpensive for $xxx. runs very cool (idle 27-29C, 36-38 under load) with ARCTIC COOLING ACS64U 90mm Cooling Fan/Heatsink ($xx). i have it overclocked to 2.29GHz with 1.3V and FSB of 255 using 1 gig Geil PC3200 DDR Value RAM. Stable on Prime95 for 8hrs.

Cons: may not be detected properly by some motherboards.

Other Thoughts: I'm using this chip on the relatively new Biostar 6100-M7 motherboard. The chip boots up and is recognized, but voltage cannot be changed through bios. Had to flash with the TForce bios (dated 11/02/05) from Biostar to resolve blank screen or freezing after restart or shutdown. Used software overclocking with Crystal CPUID to change voltage and multiplier settings in WinXP (bios settings 1.08V, FSB 255, x6 multiplier setting). Otherwise it will not boot with bios settings of 1.08V, 255 FSB, and multiplier setting of x9.

5 out of 5 eggsGood value overall

Pros: Cool running without the IHS and a good overclocker for a 130 nm processor.

Cons: Lack of IHS makes use with some heatsink/fan combo's problematic. Lack of IHS also exposes core to crushing/chipping for those not careful when installing hsf. Also, some desktop socket 754 boards have problems running DTR processors, since they are made for laptops and not desktop boards.

Other Thoughts: I bought this along with the DFI Lanparty NF3 250GB board in March for a dedicated Folding cruncher and it's been a most reliable setup. It's now been running for 9 months at 100% load at 2600 MHz and no problems. This processor/mobo combo would also make for a great second/kid's computer too. The lack of an IHS on the processor can give problems with some heatsinks, but the Thermalright XP90 and Thermalright SLK 948-U will both work with no modifications and do a bangup job of cooling the processor down. As always, Newegg got the board and processor to me well packed and in good condition.
