Can't find a better processor
- Pros: This Processor can and will take anything you throw at it. If you're someone who likes to multitask and do several things at once, buy this processor! I've been able to defrag 2 hard drives(not recommended while doing other things), burn a dvd, encode an MP3 and play Quake 4 at the same time without any kind of slow down.
- Cons: Price, although I think it's the best bang for your buck.
- Other Thoughts: You may see issues with older applications not behaving correctly. I encountered a problem within Half Life 1 and its mods(Counterstrike, DOD) where every few seconds I would stutter and the more USB devices I had plugged in, the worse it go. After 3 days of pulling my hair out, I come to find out that the application couldn't handle the dual core. You can define the amount of use with a given application by going into Task Manager(CTRL-ALT-DEL) > Processes Tab > Right Click Executable for Process > Choose set Affinity and then you can choose which processor to use.
If this is an application you use frequently, I'd recommend downloading Powerstrip 3.61. You can setup a profile in there so that everytime a certain application is launched, it only runs it on the first CPU.
Hope this little bit of info helps some poor soul from the agony I went through.
Excellent Processor ...
- Pros: An excellent processor, works quite well with Linux in both 64bit and 32bit flavors, as well as Windows XP in both 64bit and 32bit flavors.
Extremely fast, and has a 1MB L2 cache for each logical processor.
- Cons: Have had some issues with the Toledo core processors so far. One processor installed correctly, was left to "burn in" over the course of a couple days. During that time, the computer had shutdown and then refused to boot. Switched out processors with another 4400+ Toledo, and the computer booted. Sent the faulty proc to AMD, who said they had no idea what was wrong with it, but quickly sent a replacement, which worked fine.
- Other Thoughts: This processor is excellent for multitasking performance. Be aware that it does not perform as well as a single core processor doing a single job, however. An example is games (currently), which are not usually multi-threaded and are capable of utilizing only one core at a time. This will change over time, especially since Microsoft has announced a commitment to 64bit processing (meaning more 64bit processors will be sold, and multi-cores will be more common). Expect the usefulness of the processor to increase over time, as applications are developed to take advantage of the technology.

Great Chip
- Pros: Very fast. This is my first Duel core processer, and I love it. While having a duel core CPU does not have a huge impact on games, it greatly speeds up my computer when I have multipule applications running.
- Cons: No cons as far as performance. The only con I've noticed is in compatibility. I play a lot of old games, and most of them go haywire when I try to play them on a duel core. To fix this, open up the task manager, find the process for the game. Right click on the process, select "set affinity", and choose only one of the CPUS.
Excellent Processor
- Pros: Good processor for my aging 939 motherboard. Overclocks extremely well - 2.9 Ghz @ 1.35V.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: I got the OEM version of this processor. 4400x2, tuniq tower 120, a8n-sli deluxe
A good chip at a good price
- Pros: It's a very versitile chip with a great price. It is overclockable provided that you have memory that meets your needs.
- Cons: None to speak of. Take advantage of the chip's 64 bit processing capabilities.

Highlights
 |
AMD64 Dual-core Technology AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. With dual-core technology there are two complete processor cores in one physical package running at the same frequency to deliver TRUE multi-tasking power, allowing users to switch from one program to another without pausing for the computer to catch up and reducing annoying processing pauses.
|
 |
HyperTransport Technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link designed to increase communication speeds between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems, and networking and telecommunications equipment. The Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Socket 939 processor is equipped with HT technology to enable a system bus speed of up to 2000MHz, delivering a maximum of 8GB/s I/O bandwidth and 14.4GB/s processor-to-system bandwidth.
|
 |
CNQ: Cool'n'Quiet Technology AMD's Cool'n'Quiet technology is an innovative solution available on AMD Athlon 64 processor-based systems that can effectively lower the power consumption and enable a quieter-running system while delivering performance-on-demand.
|
 |
Enhanced Virus Protection All AMD processors equipped with AMD64 technology are Enhanced Virus Protection-enabled. Enhanced virus protection acts as a preventative measure causing the virus to be localized, short-lived, and non-contagious, eventually being flushed from system memory.
