When replacing your Socket 939 mobo isn't an option, the Opteron 165 processor is a great choice to boost system performance and extend usability. This AMD64 based dual core processor runs at a respectable 1.8GHz and has 1MB of L2 cache per processor. AMD64 technology delivers peak performance with today’s 32-bit apps and has a built in upgrade path to the 64-bit apps that are coming.

Direct Connect Architecture drastically reduces performance-owering bottlenecks. It works with the HyperTransport technology and integrated memory controller to speed up data transfers and keep the pipelines full so your system doesn’t waste clock cycles waiting for data.

  • newegg AMD64 Dual-core Technology AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32 and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. With dual-core technology there are two complete processor cores in one physical package running at the same frequency to deliver TRUE multi-tasking power, allowing users to switch from one program to another without pausing for the computer to catch up and reducing annoying processing pauses.
  • newegg HyperTransport Technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link designed to increase communication speeds between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems, and networking and telecommunications equipment. With HT technology the AMD Opteron 165 Dual-core processor enjoys 1000MHz system bus speeds.
  • newegg Enhanced Virus Protection All AMD processors equipped with AMD64 technology are Enhanced Virus Protection-enabled. Enhanced virus protection acts as a preventative measure causing viruses to be localized, short-lived, and non-contagious, eventually being flushed from system memory.

5 out of 5 eggswhat stepping a u getting now

Pros: overclocks great most 2.7 to 2.8

Cons: 9x multiplier gives some mobo fits over 300 fsb=2.7 i think would go higher with a 10x.oh well buy a 170 then.

Other Thoughts: are these still lcb9e ?or if different what are they, and had any luck overclocking them?thanks

5 out of 5 eggsBest 100 dollar I've ever spent... on a CPU

Pros: An amazing overclocker. Got mine up to almost 3.1 GHZ on stock cooling but definitely not stable. Right now mine it running 2.8GHZ (315X9 @ 1.375 volts in the BIOS). It's runs at 55 C on load with a Zalman 9700 cooler. I want to try for 3 GHZ stable but that's for a latter date.

Cons: Only socket 939

Other Thoughts: Great upgrade for the pretty much dead socket 939. If you're trying to pull more time out of your 939 system before you upgrade to an AM2/AM2+/AM3 system or a 775 system then I would say go with this or one of the higher 1XX Opterons you most likely won't be disappointed. Oh and I got mine to under 30 seconds in super PI 1 million.

4 out of 5 eggs3rd Opteron w/High Temps

Pros: Newegg is great on SHIPPING no doubt.

Cons: Currently at 1.8GHz w/stock voltages and hitting 38-40c temps @IDLE. This is my third processor so i'm just going to get my refund. I guess i always get the short end of the stick, hmm.....

Other Thoughts: Put my other Opteron 0551 stepping back and the IDLE is @29-30c where it should be and that's @2.6GHz 1.47v PERIOD

5 out of 5 eggsSuper CPU

Pros: Super affordable cpu - this opty 165 overclocks well right out of the box. With a Zalman CNPS9500 mine is currently running at 3GHz - yes, that's right 335x9=3.01GHz.

You can't beat the cost to performance ratio on these opty 165s. A couple of weeks from now I'll lap it and see how much faster it'll run. So far, it is faster and cooler running than my previous opty 170.

Cons: None - unless you consider that it's not a Core2Duo a con.

Other Thoughts: If you have a decent 939 board you can't go wrong with this cpu. I'm running it on an Asus A8N32-SLI. DfI and others may even be better overclockers.

5 out of 5 eggsUghh

Pros: If you get a good one..

Cons: I got a dud

Other Thoughts: I got an absolute dud...runs as hot as hell with a Zalman 9700. RMA time...dissapointing. Not AMD's fault, just one of those things.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat price, Great Overclocking

Pros: I bought 2 of these within a week of each other because the 1st one I got Overclocked so well I had to get a 2nd one. 1st board I put it in was the Old AsRock 939 dual sata II board. With GEIL ddr2 400 memory. Put FSB at 280 think it put processor @ 2.54 ghz? Runs great no problems...that was the only thing I changed, probably can go higher but thats good enough for me all stock. However, I bought a Foxconn 939 here..and stock I can only go to about 220 FSB. I think I have to tweak the power on that board to get higher speeds. I tried ram from the other pc that had 280 FSB , but they are same ram basically and it didnt help. So it has to be main board or voltage settings.

Cons: Overclocking is great, but make sure you have good ram and a decent motherboard...of Course...COOLING.

4 out of 5 eggsLittle life still left

Pros: Gave my ol 939 a little pick me up. Went from Venice 3200 to this. Did a little overclocking 9x290 2.6 at stock volts. Haven't tried to increase the volts to go higher but 800 overclock not bad with def. volts. I have 2 of these and they both top with def. volts at 2.6... Not bad for under $100.

Cons: None, does what it should.

Other Thoughts: Paired this with 8800 GTS and runs everything. Score 9500 in 3DMK06.
