Amazing CPU / Bang Per Buck Champ
- Pros: 1) Low wattage = low heat dissipation = high overclockability; 2) 2 x 1MB cache does make a difference on some apps; 3) These things are amazing overclockers right out of the box. Stock voltage, stock cooling, no problem; 4) I'm getting Opteron FX-62 speeds out of this thing without doing much of anything special aside from changing the FSB speed and HT multiplier on my mobo; 5) Real world Price/Performance is identical to Intel Conroe CPUs when running games & benchmarks above 1024x768 resolution.
- Cons: 1) For some reason AMD is no longer including the high quality heat-pipe style cooler with this 89W version of the 4400+. Not much of a negative since this thing runs so cool to begin with, but it would still be nice to have a better stock cooler instead of the standard aluminum fin part since even a couple degrees celsius can make a difference when overclocking; 2) Performance isn't on par with Intel's new Conroe CPUs when running benchmarks at 1024x768; 3) Doesn't take out the trash or do the dishes.
- Other Thoughts: If u already have a S939 board this is a no-brainer. If ur building a new system the Conroe might be a better choice depending on your needs & budget. To the previous noob/troll whose comment is titled "skip": u need a serious crash course in economics & common sense. The reason AMD X2 CPUs weren't this low in price 6 months ago is bc at that time AMD still OWNED Intel in price & performance. Why would AMD randomly drop prices when they were still thrashing Intel in performance at EVERY price point? Intel hasn't had a worthy desktop CPU for the last 4.5 years until Conroe FINALLY hit the shelves 3 weeks ago. This is why AMD dropped their prices. The current price point for AMD CPUs is very competitive. When you add up the cost of building a new Conroe system w/ a new mobo&DDR2 RAM it's pretty clear why X2 CPUs are a good deal, especially for people who already have S939 mobos. Next time, make sure your brain is in gear before engaging your mouth.
Easy Overclocker
- Pros: Overclocks out of the box with stock voltage and stock HSF to 2.8GHz. Little effort with big returns.
- Cons: Not as fast as Intel's latest.
- Other Thoughts: I've gotten this stable up to 2.92GHz with 1.425v with stock HSF.
May not be as fast as Intel's latest, but if you own a 939 mobo already, this is a good buy.

- Pros: It's fast and ready for the next generation, 2 cores, 64-bit
- Cons: Nothing takes advantage of both cores effectively or 64-bit because it hasn't mainstreamed.
- Other Thoughts: I run it stock and it's fast enough for me, don't want to risk my novice thermal compound application failing and ruining this beast.
AMD 4400
- Pros: Overclocks to 2.6 - 2.7 without changing voltage. Temps @2.6 are 28c idle and 47c load. Improved 3dmark6 about 8% over AMD 3700 clocked at the same speed same system.
- Cons: Socket 939 motherboards will probably be hard to fine also in the future.
- Other Thoughts: You will have a hard time finding one.
WOW!!
- Pros: Well worth the money I spent for this chip. I have it OC 300 mhz and it runs very fast and stable. I ran 3d Mark 06 for 9 hours and the PC never locked.
- Cons: NOTHING

Highlights
 |
AMD64 Dual-core Technology AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. With dual-core technology there are two complete processor cores in one physical package running at the same frequency to deliver TRUE multi-tasking power, allowing users to switch from one program to another without pausing for the computer to catch up and reducing annoying processing pauses.
|
 |
HyperTransport Technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link designed to increase communication speeds between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems, and networking and telecommunications equipment. The Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Socket 939 processor is equipped with HT technology to enable a system bus speed of up to 2000MHz, delivering a maximum of 8GB/s I/O bandwidth and 14.4GB/s processor-to-system bandwidth.
|
 |
CNQ: Cool'n'Quiet Technology AMD's Cool'n'Quiet technology is an innovative solution available on AMD Athlon 64 processor-based systems that can effectively lower the power consumption and enable a quieter-running system while delivering performance-on-demand.
|
 |
Enhanced Virus Protection All AMD processors equipped with AMD64 technology are Enhanced Virus Protection-enabled. Enhanced virus protection acts as a preventative measure causing the virus to be localized, short-lived, and non-contagious, eventually being flushed from system memory.
