2.8 Ghz
- Pros: Decent price, dual cores, overclocking ability.
It has convinced other companies to lower their prices - one of the benefits of competition. If this was a different brand-1 year ago, you would have paid a house payment for it.
- Cons: Not really cons but things to consider:
The 4300 overclocks easier and is going to be a lot cheaper in the coming months.
The E6300 is getting 2MB more cache pretty soon (think it's the 6320). So if you have patience, unlike me, it's better to hold off a little bit longer.
- Other Thoughts: Stock: the processor is still pretty fast for today's standards. It runs cool unlike some other Intel chips. I have mine overclocked, and it was pretty much effortless. Here's some 3dmark06 scores when teamed with a 7900 GS gpu.
stock - 4650 OC'd 2.8 - 5047 (2450 cpu score)
@2.8 with Zalman 7700 load temps are high 40s low 50s. Could be better but not bad for my first time.
Stupid Performance
- Pros: This thing is a ridiculous overclocker. I have the E6300 matched with a Gigabyte DS3 mobo, Patriot CAS4 RAM, and a Coolermaster Centurion case. I currently have this beast OC's to 3.01 GHZ on ALL STOCK VOLTAGES with STOCK COOLING! No, really. Temps at full processor speed run 42C idle, and never break 50C under 100% load. With power management turned on, idle temps stay at 37C. Maybe the 50C temp scares some people, but I've run processors for years at temps in the mid 50's. I've been building PC's for over 15 years now and have never seen a cpu overclock like this.
- Cons: This thing is so freakin' fast it really makes the weak links in the performance chain stand out. When I'm hitting the Seagate Barracuda pretty hard, it definitely shows. Guess my next upgrate is going to have to be a faster hard drive. (like dual Raptors or something)
- Other Thoughts: I ran into something weird along the way to 3 GHz. When I dropped the memory multiplier down to 2.0, Windows would boot at 533 Mhz memory speed, but not 667 Mhz. I finally decided to "go for it" and cranked it up to 720 Mhz, and it worked like a charm. Now I'm sitting at FSB=430 and the ram at 860mhz, 4-4-4-12 with no problems. Weird. Apparently the memory subsystem and Windows don't like that 667 Mhz timing.

Freaking A Right
- Pros: This baby packs quite a punch. Coupled this to a Intel BOXD975XBX2KR, Adata 2GB PC 800, Western Digital 1TB, EVGA 7900GTO and in a nice RocketFish case and she purrrs. Plays COD4 excellently, no lag, and computes like no other
- Cons: Clock Speed a bit slow, but thats what overclocking is for
- Other Thoughts: For a budget gamer or a hardcore gamer. it gets the job done right.
OC to 3.05Ghz on air
- Pros: Running since March 2008 at 3.05Ghz with zero issues in Xp Pro. Arctic 7 Pro fan in Antec aluminum case keeps Asus P5KC board temp at 35C and CPU at 37C. Under full load, temp only goes up 5C.
- Cons: Doesn't wash my car or do dishes.
- Other Thoughts: 2GB DDR800 Kingston, EGA7600GT
Excellent Processor, HORRIBLE FAN
- Pros: Good processor and the price I paid is good for a starter computer for learning usage.
- Cons: stock fan that came with the processor is HORRIBLE!!! How can you lock down the fan with plastic rods that gets fastened to the motherboard. Not 100% guaranteed that it will stay clamped. Going to order another fan with a back plate to ensure the fan gets clamped down tight.
- Other Thoughts: 4-stars cause the stock fan is garbage. Other than that, procssor is good and the FSB is INCREDIBLE.

Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) With Intel VT, one hardware platform functions as multiple "virtual" platforms. For business, Intel VT offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining worker productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions. In the home, Intel VT allows creating unique user environments for multiple family members using the same platform simultaneously.
|
 |
Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology Support Multiple performance modes enable optimum performance at the lowest power, using real-time dynamic switching of the voltage and frequency between multiple performance modes based on CPU demands.
|
 |
Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T) Intel EM64T provides an enhancement to Intel 32-bit architecture by enabling the desktop processor platform to access larger amounts of memory. With appropriate 64-bit supporting hardware and software, platforms based on an Intel processor supporting Intel EM64T can enable use of extended virtual and physical memory.
